Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How is it determined who gets to deal first in cribbage?

Answer: Lowest cut card deals first.

The game is started by opponents cutting the deck for deal. Low card deals first. One should always replace the cards on top of the deck before his opponent cuts the deck.
2. When the last card played in a hand totals to 31, you score 2 points for 31 and do not get the 1 point for the last card.

Answer: True

Since the counting goes to 31 and anything lower is considered a "go", the last card played that totals 31 is 31 for two points. Last card for one point does not apply.
3. What is the total number of points needed to win a game of cribbage?

Answer: 121

On a basic cribbage board there are four "streets". Each street is thirty points. The 121st point determines the winner. Whoever gets there first wins.
4. Before play begins, the deck is cut. What happens if a jack is cut?

Answer: Dealer gets two points

When ever a Jack is cut, the dealer receives two points. One debated rule is that if a Jack is cut, and the dealer can win the game with the two points, the two point rule is void. That rule is controversial, and usually determined by "house" rules.
5. If you have four "4's" in your hand, and a 6 is cut, the value of your hand is what?

Answer: twelve

Four of a kind always equal twelve, barring any other means of making points.
6. If you have four "6's" in your hand and a "3" is cut, how many points is your hand worth?

Answer: twenty four

Four of kind gives you twelve points and then you can get six different combinations of "15 for two" for another twelve points.
7. What is the highest possible hand in cribbage?

Answer: 29

A twenty nine hand is composed of three fives and a Jack in your hand, with the cut card being a five that is the same suit as the Jack in your hand.
8. It is impossible to score 19 points in a hand of cribbage.

Answer: True

No combinations of cards make it possible to score 19 points in a hand. Often a hand that has no points is referred to as "19" a.k.a nothing.
9. Aces always count for both high and low cards when used to form "runs" in the game.

Answer: False

Aces only count in runs as a low digit. They are never a high card in cribbage.
10. When playing cribbage with three people, how are the cards distributed?

Answer: five to each player, one face down to the crib

Every cribbage hand has four cards with the cut card being the community card.
