1. Castroville, California is the self-proclaimed "center of the world" for which edible member of the thistle family?

Answer: Artichoke

Castroville in California grows about 75% of the artichokes eaten in the U.S.A.. Since the 1940s the town has held an annual Artichoke Festival. Activities during the festival include cooking demonstrations, musical entertainment, a classic car show and a parade. Marilyn Monroe was an "Artichoke Queen" during a festival in the 1947 and William Hung was the "Artichoke King" in 2006.

The cardoon is another member of the thistle family and sometimes called the artichoke thistle. It is edible. Good luck eating a Scottish thistle. I don't know if they are edible and it would be nasty getting past the thorns. The eggplant (aubergine) is a member of the nightshade family so it's related to the tomato and potato.

Alma, Arkansas is home to the Allen Canning Company and its plant in Alma cans over 50% of America's spinach. A statue of Popeye can be found in Alma and the annual Spinach Festival is held there every April. Crystal City in Texas also calls itself the Spinach Capital of the World.

There are several towns in the U.S.A. which are state capitals of catfish but Belzoni is the catfish capital of the world. They host the annual world "World Catfish Festival" in April every year. Belzoni is located in Humphreys County, Mississippi and the county produces more farm raised catfish than any other in the U.S.A.
8. The Cherry Capital of the World is Traverse City located in which midwestern state of the USA?

Answer: Michigan

Traverse City, Michigan has hosted the World Cherry Festival since 1926. The festival takes place in the first full week of July and is the main tourist attraction drawing people to Traverse City. The city is located in Grand Traverse County and it's estimated the county produces over 300,000,000 pounds of cherries annually.
9. Breaux Bridge in Louisiana is the capital for which crustacean?

Answer: Crawfish

The crawfish is a freshwater crustacean related to the lobster. The Annual Crawfish Festival is held in the first weekend of May every year. You can eat crawfish prepared in almost every fashion possible to your heart's content while listening to Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Pop music. Dove Creek doesn't claim to produce the largest crop of pinto beans. They claim to produce the best. The local red soil and climate create a perfect environment for pinto beans. The beans have been grown there for at least a thousand years. Dove Creek with its population of around 700 is the county seat for Dolores County which has a total population of only around 1850.
