The World Health Organization suggests only breastfeeding infants until they're about six months, and then breast feeding in addition to other food until they're upwards to two years old or show signs of readiness, at which point, you should start weaning them off of it. Breastfeeding also helps mothers lose post-pregnancy weight, but drugs can go through to the baby, so you should consult your doctor about breastfeeding if you're using prescription drugs or some over the counter drugs.
