Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There are four phases to every turn. What is the first phase called?

Answer: Kick Open the Door

After arranging your cards at the beginning of your turn, you proceed to phase one called "Kick Open the Door". You draw a card from the Door deck of cards to see what you get. If it's a monster, you fight it. Curses apply to you immediately and any other cards can be played or kept in your hand.
2. There are two decks of cards, the Door deck and the Treasure deck. Which of the following is NOT part of the Door deck?

Answer: Armor

Armor, as well as other items, such as Headgear, Footgear, and Weapons, are included in the Treasure deck. The Treasure deck also includes Ship Enhancers, one-shot items, and "Go Up a Level" cards.
3. Which card allows a player to have more than one Class?

Answer: Super Munchkin

Every player's character can have one Class and one Accent in play, unless they get special cards to allow you to have more than one at a time. The Bilingual card allows you to have two Accents, while the Super Munckin card lets you have two Classes. There are benefits to having more than one Class since each Class has different bonuses, but if you choose to have more than one Class you also get all the disadvantages of the two Classes. You may choose to have only one Class with the Super Munchkin card.

This lets you keep the advantages for that Class and ignore the disadvantages.
4. Monsters have different levels, but there are also special types of monsters. Which type of monster is the Sea Lawyer?

Answer: Shark

Sharks can join any combat another Shark is involved in without the use of a Wandering Monster card. The Sea Lawyer is a Level 10 Shark, but loses two levels against anyone with a British Accent. If you lose a fight to the Sea Lawyer, then you get the top Curse in the discard pile. If that Curse doesn't apply to you, you lose a level.

The good news is that if there is no Curse in the pile, then you get away on a technicality!
5. Which weapon normally gives you a +1 bonus, but gives you +4 when going up against any foe with "beard" in its name?

Answer: Razor

What better weapon for a bearded opponent than the Razor! Unfortunately, the Razor cannot be used by anyone with a Spanish Accent. It occupies one hand and is worth 300 Gold Pieces if traded.
6. Sir Francis Drake is a Level 14 monster, but he gets a +5 combat bonus against which Accent?

Answer: Spanish

The card actually reads: " +5 against Spanish. (Historical fact! Though until recently he was thought to be only +4 and lucky.)" This makes sense since the real Francis Drake was commissioned to attack Spanish ships and steal their treasure. Fortunately, anyone with a British Accent cannot battle against Sir Francis Drake and he rewards them with a Treasure. Losing a battle to him results in the loss of your Armor, unless you have none which means you lose a level.
7. Which item gives a player a +10 combat against an Undead monster?

Answer: Holystone

The Holystone is a one-shot item worth 400 Gold Pieces and is not usable by Pirates. It can also be used to cancel a Curse as it is played or to remove one already in effect.
8. If you lose a fight against a monster, do you automatically have to take the Bad Stuff for that monster?

Answer: No

You get a chance to Run Away! During this stage of combat, you roll the die to try and escape the monster. If you roll a five or better, you escape, but you don't get any treasure. Some monsters are faster or slower than others and give either a penalty or bonus to your roll.

There are also cards which give you a Run Away bonus, but be careful! Another player could play a card to put you at a disadvantage and take away from your roll.
9. Which of the following monsters is NOT classified as a Shark?

Answer: Liopleurodon

The Liopleurodon is a Level 18 Undead monster that gives a -4 combat penalty against Pirates. The good news is that ships count double when combatting it. If you kill it you gain two levels and four Treasures, but losing to it results in the loss of your ship. If you don't have a ship, then you are dead!
10. It is possible for your character to die. If this happens, you lose all your stuff. What happens to it?

Answer: Other players "Loot the Body" and take it.

You do get to keep your Class, Accent and Level. Unfortunately, you also keep any Curses that are affecting you. You lay out all your cards, and players take turns choosing a card and any remaining cards are discarded. Since you have no cards, you get four cards from each deck when you start your next turn.
