Erno Rubik, a lecturer at the Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Applied Arts and Crafts in Budapest, Hungary, made the first cube in 1974. He was looking for an innovative method to teach his students about 3D objects. When he saw how much the students loved this little cube, Mr. Rubik decided to market his invention to the world.

The white center piece sticker is the proof one needs to tell the real from the fake. Believe me, the real Rubik's Cube could be disassembled, as I did it a few times before I figured out how to solve it.
