Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many properties are on the board? (Not Railroads/Utilities)

Answer: 22

There are 22 colored properties, 4 railroads, 2 utilities, 3 Chance and Community Chest spaces, GO, Jail, Free Parking, Go to Jail, Income Tax and Luxury Tax for a total of 40 spaces.
2. How much money comes with a standard game of Monopoly?

Answer: $15140

All that cash and there are always way too many 50's and 20's and never enough 100's!
3. How many houses and hotels come with a standard Monopoly game?

Answer: 32 Houses, 12 Hotels

If your are winning really B-I-G you run out of hotels. The houses are green and the hotels are red. Parker Brothers makes about 100 million little green houses each year!
4. How many properties don't end with 'Avenue'? (Including Railroads and Utilities)

Answer: 11

This was a hard question, right? I thought it was funny that not all of the properties end in "Avenue" They are St. Charles Place, St. James Place, Marvin Gardens, Park Place, Boardwalk, Reading Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad, B&O Railroad, Shortline, Electric Company and Water Works.
5. In what year did the first American Monopoly come out?

Answer: 1935

It came out in 1935 and remained unchanged until 1984 when the only thing that changed was the man in the middle. They never used to have him there but now he is. They also changed the slogan. It is not straight across anymore, it's on a slant. The coloring on the board also got better as time went on.
6. How much does Baltic Avenue cost with 3 Houses on it?

Answer: $180

Baltic Avenue is the second lowest valued property on the board. It is good because it collects people's GO money.
7. One of the fuchsia colored properties is St. Charles Ave.

Answer: False

It is St. Charles PLACE, not Avenue. I told you that in an earlier question!
8. What caused Monopoly tokens to be made from wood for a brief period of time?

Answer: World War II

The United States Army needed the extra metals to make bullets and guns to fight in the war. Did you know that escape maps, compasses, and files, were inserted into Monopoly game boards and smuggled into P.O.W camps inside Germany during World War II. Real money for escapees was slipped into the packs of Monopoly money. So Monopoly played a huge role in World War II.
9. How much Monopoly money does Parker Brothers print each year?

Answer: 50 Billion Dollars

If only it were real! Each valued bill has a different color. The 500 is dark orange, the 100 is light tan, the 50 is blue, the 20 is green, the 10 is yellow, the 5 is pink and the 1 is white. There are 20 500's and 100's, 30 50's, 50 20's, and 40 10's, 5's and 1's.
10. What property on the board is misspelled in relation to the real property?

Answer: Marvin Gardens

In 1995 Parker Brothers apologized to the residents of Marven Gardens for the misspelling. It was never changed on the board though.

Thanks for playing!
