Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the colours of the checkers in a Canadian Connect 4 game?

Answer: Red and Black

In the Canadian version, the colours are red and black. They are the same colours that are used in checkers. However, in the UK, the checkers are red and yellow.
2. What is the Connect 4 "board" called that you must drop your checkers into?

Answer: Grid

The name of the item is a grid. It has slots for seven checkers across and six checkers up/down. In the Canadian version, the grid is yellow.
3. The playing time for Connect 4 is comparable to the game of Risk (i.e. more than one hour).

Answer: False

This is a relatively quick game. Most games are done in ten minutes of effort.
4. Who is the publisher of Connect 4?

Answer: Milton Bradley

According to Wikipedia, the game was published under the famous Connect Four trademark by Milton Bradley in 1974; however, the much older original version is known as "The Captain's Mistress".
5. You win when you get four of the same coloured checkers in a row. You can do this diagonally, vertically or ?

Answer: horizontally

Horizontally means straight across. Most opening moves in Connect 4 tend to be dropped in two or three spots on the bottom row all in a row.
6. What is the most important part of the Connect 4 board that must be positioned correctly at the beginning of every game?

Answer: the retaining lever

The retaining lever is very important at the beginning of every game. If it is not adjusted correctly, then the checkers will fall right though.

Snacks are important but they are not part of the game. Neither are dice and a timer.
7. Three people can play Connect 4.

Answer: False

Only two can, of course because there are only two colours of checkers.
8. What are the pieces called that attach to the end support to make sure the checkers do not go rolling all over the place?

Answer: Checker catcher

It is called the Checker catcher because that is what it does. The Checker catcher connects to the end support. The end support holds the grid and the retaining lever is what holds the checkers in. All pieces fit together perfectly.
9. According to the 2006 version of this game, what age is Connect 4 recommended for?

Answer: seven and older

Seven or older is what is written on the box. Pattern recognition is something that is picked up at a young age. Seven year olds are the prime age for this type of game. I think 5-year-olds could also enjoy this game.

Two is too young for this game as there are small parts. There is a warning on this game about choking hazards for children under three.
10. What is NOT another name for Connect 4?

Answer: Fours Up!

Fours Up! is not a real name. I made it up.

Connect 4 has been known as Plot Four, Four in a Row and Four in a Line.
