Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the first monkey Elphaba enchants, which results in wings appearing in every member of the species?

Answer: Chistery

In "The Wizard of Oz" the Wicked Witch is surrounded by these genetically altered monkeys and it is this segment which details how they came into being.
2. What was the title of Galinda's Shiz entrance essay which failed to earn her a place in Madame Morrible's sorcery class?

Answer: Magic Wands: Need They Have A Point?

This humorous line always results in a laugh from the audience. This is followed up by the scene in which Galinda tries, and fails, to use her wand to transform Elphaba's plain frock in ball gown in "Popular".
3. What vegetable is used, in combination with previous adjectives, to describe Elphaba when she is born?

Answer: A froggy, ferny cabbage

Following the flashback to Elphaba's birth, Glinda is heard defending Elphaba by saying "It couldn't have been easy" which goes unnoticed by the celebrating Munchkins.
4. What is Madame Morrible's "special talent"?

Answer: encouraging talent

At first, Madame Morrible appears to be a good Samaritan in helping Elphaba meet the Wizard and developing her talent. However, she soon falls from grace, corrupted by the power offered to her by the Wizard.
5. Before "Dancing Through Life" Galinda describes Fiyero as "the Winkie Prince". What is the reason behind this description?

Answer: it's where he is from

On the backdrop shown before the show starts, there is a map of the territories of Oz, one of which is "Winkie" where Fiyero is from.
6. What is the Wizard's first sung line in the show? (Hint: He is not known as the Wizard at this point)

Answer: Have another drink, my dark eyed beauty

In the opening number "No One Mourns The Wicked" the Wizard appears simply as a man that Elphaba's mother is having an affair with. It isn't until later that he is identified as the Wizard and Elphaba's birth father.
7. When Elphaba returns to see Nessarose in her house in Munchkin Land and enchants her jeweled slippers so she can walk, Boq wants to leave Nessarose to attend a ball. What is the ball being hosted for?

Answer: Glinda's engagement to Fiyero

Nessarose becomes enraged by the fact that it's Glinda Boq is truly interested in and attempts a spell to make him love her. When the spell backfires, Elphaba is forced to turn Boq into the Tinman in order to save his life.
8. Which one of these lines are uttered by Elphaba when she asks what the other Shiz students are staring it?

Answer: No, I'm not seasick

This is the first time that Elphaba's forceful personality comes to the forefront in the show.
9. When Glinda attempts to enquire whether Fiyero is dead, Elphaba replies "We've seen his face for the last time". What does she mean by this?

Answer: That he has been magically transformed into a scarecrow

Throughout the show, three of the main characters are transformed into three of the main characters of "The Wizard of Oz". Fiyero becomes the scarecrow, Nessarose becomes the Wicked Witch of the East and Boq becomes the Tinman.
10. Which musical number represents the first time Elphaba truly believes herself to be the Wicked Witch?

Answer: "No Good Deed"

"No Good Deed" is one of the most defining moments in the show, and it also asks some philosophical questions which many of us would have wondered ourselves. Earlier, in "As Long as You're Mine", she says that she feels wicked, presaging future developments.
