Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The hit movie "Newsies" was adapted into a Broadway musical of the same name. In the musical adaptation, the movie characters Sarah Jacobs and Brian Denton were combined into one character. What is that character's name?

Answer: Kathrine Plumber

Kathrine Plumber is the combination of Sarah Jacobs and Brian Denton. Like Sarah Jacobs she is Jack's love interest, but she is a reporter just like Brian Denton. Kara Lindsay originated this role on Broadway.
2. In the musical "Urinetown", what Public Amenity station does Bobby work at?

Answer: Public Amenity #9

Bobby Strong works as an Assistant Urinal Custodian at Public Amenity #9 with Penelope Pennywise. It is his job to make sure all citizens have to pay a fine to the UGC to use a urinal. "Urinetown" is a fantastic musical that satirizes things like capitalism, social irresponsibility, and municipal politics.
3. In the musical "Once", Guy is a repairman. What does he mainly repair for people? Please note that I am talking about the Broadway musical version, not the movie which it is based on.

Answer: Vacuum Cleaners

Girl first meets Guy when she needs her vacuum cleaner repaired. Instead of paying him money, she offers to play him music instead. Guy accepts and they end up playing the song "Falling Slowly" together.
4. In the musical "Next to Normal", Diana Goodman suffers from bipolar disorder coupled with hallucinations. To try and cure Diana, her doctor recommends ECT treatments, but he warns her that she may experience some minor memory loss. She decides to go ahead with treatments, but she ends up experiencing major memory loss. How many years of memory does she lose?

Answer: 19

After two weeks of ECT treatments, Diana loses 19 years of memory. Her doctor assures her family that memory loss is normal, and that they should show her pictures and mementos to help Diana recover. During the song "Better Than Before", the family tries this with minor success.
5. In "Shrek: The Musical", which of these fairy tale creatures are not in the show? Please note that I am talking about the Broadway musical, not the West End or National Tour.

Answer: Tweedle Dee

Tweedle Dee was not a character in the Broadway musical. Tweedle Dum was not part of the orignal Broadway show but in September 2009, he replaced Humpty Dumpty. Both Dee and Dum were in the West End version and Tweedle Dum was in the First National Tour.
6. True or False? In the musical "Beauty and the Beast", Beast kills Gaston. Please note that I am referring to the stage musical, not the Disney movie.

Answer: False

The Beast actually doesn't kill Gaston directly. During their duel on the balcony, Gaston plunges a dagger into the Beast's back. This causes Gaston to lose his footing and fall off the balcony to his death. Bell is later able to save the Beast by transforming him into his true form.
7. In "13: The Musical", what is the name of the movie that Brett, Malcolm, and Eddie want Evan to buy them tickets to?

Answer: The Bloodmaster

Everyone wants Evan to get his mom to buy tickets to the Bloodmaster. During the song "All Hail the Brain / Terminal Illness", Evan tries to figure out a way to get tickets to the movie. He eventually figures out that he can get Archie to use his terminal illness to convince his mom to get the tickets.
8. In the musical "Sister Act", what is the name of the upbeat song that Deloris teaches the choir to sing in church? Please note that I am talking about the Broadway musical version.

Answer: Take Me to Heaven

Deloris teaches the choir to sing "Take Me to Heaven"! This is an upbeat version of the song that she used to sing in the Night Club she worked at. Mother Superior hates the song, but it ends up making the choir successful, therefore getting the church extra donations.
9. In "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", what is the word that Leaf Coneybear spells wrong?

Answer: chinchilla

Leaf Coneybear spells the word chinchilla wrong. He spells the words "acouchi" and "capybara" correctly, much to his suprise, and so even though he gets eliminated on the word chinchilla, he is very proud of himself. "Tittup" is the word that is misspelled by Chip.
10. In the musical "The Drowsy Chaperone", Janet pretends to be a French woman so she can see if her fiance, Robert, truly loves her. What is the fake name she uses?

Answer: Mimi

Janet pretends to be Mimi when she meets Robert in the garden. Robert was convinced by George to go roller skating blindfolded, and when he meets "Mimi" there, he kisses her because she is so much like Janet. This causes Janet to think he is unfaithful, so she decides to call off the wedding.
