Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There are eight main characters in this musical. Which one is it?

Answer: Rent

"Rent" debuted on Broadway in 1996 and was written by Jonathan Larson, who also wrote the autobiographical musical "Tick...Tick...Boom!"
2. This musical features a character named Lucy the Slut. Which one is it?

Answer: Avenue Q

This character sings the song "Special" n the scene where everyone is at the Around The Clock Cafe. She apparently starred in "Girls Gone Wild", parts 2, 5, and 7.
3. This musical featured the death of an unfortunate canine. Which one is it?

Answer: Rent

In the musical "Rent", one of the main characters (Benny) has his dog killed by another main character (Angel). Angel did not know at the time that the dog was Benny's, but was not too concerned about it after he met Benny, who was a bit of a jerk.
4. This musical features a song about loathing. Which one is it?

Answer: Wicked

"Wicked" is a musical about the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard Of Oz. It's basically the story of what happened "before Dorothy dropped in." During this song ("What Is This Feeling?"), Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) finds that she will be rooming in the same dorm as Galinda (who later becomes the Good Witch of the North) and has an immediately bad reaction to her new roomie.
5. This musical features a girl from Kansas coming to the big city to marry a rich man, so that she can be more modern. Which one is it?

Answer: None of these

This is actually part of the plot of the musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie", which closed in 2003 on Broadway. It was a very good show though!
6. This musical features the song "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist". Which one is it?

Answer: Avenue Q

"Avenue Q" is a musical that takes place in New York City that has been described by several of my friends as "Sesame Street on crack." one of the most interesting things about the show is that about half the characters are puppets.
7. This musical has a song that features the line "You know black is this year's pink!" Which one is it?

Answer: Wicked

This line is sung by Galinda during the song "Dancing Through Life" when she is trying to get Elphaba to wear an ugly black hat that will later become her trademark witch hat. The funny thing about it is, while singing this, Galinda is dressed in pink.
8. This musical features a very "Popular" girl.

Answer: Wicked

If you couldn't tell, I'm talking about Galinda, who performs the song "Popular" in this show. "Wicked" debuted on Broadway in 2003 and featured the incredible Idina Menzel as the original Elphaba (also the original Maureen in "Rent") and the adorable Kristen Chenoweth as Galinda/Glinda (also featured in "The West Wing" and a couple of other Broadway shows).
9. This musical has a song that contains the line "Maybe at a pottery class." Which one is it?

Answer: Avenue Q

This line is sung during the song "Purpose" when Princeton, one of the main characters, decides that he needs to find his purpose in life and finds a penny from the year he was born on the ground, thinking it's a sign of good things to come.
10. This musical features a character who needs a match and to put on a tight skirt. Which one is it?

Answer: Rent

I'm talkin' about Mimi, who displayed her need for a match in "Light My Candle" and sang the line "I wanna put on a tight skirt and flirt with a stranger" in the song "Out Tonight."

I hope you enjoyed the quiz and are as compelled by these soon-to-be-classic Broadway musicals as I am!
