Bahorel is killed when some national guardsmen infiltrate the barricade. Marius saves Courfeyrac and Gavroche, who are almost killed in this attack.
2. In the novel, which name does not refer to Valjean?

Answer: Jondrette

"LeBlanc" is a name Courfeyrac gives Valjean because of his white hair. He uses the alias of "Madeleine" in Montriel sur Mur. He uses the alias of "Ultimus Fauchelevent" at the convent and through the end of the novel. "Jondrette" is an alias used by Thernardier.
3. In the musical, who sings "Can it be your death means nothing at all? Is your life just one more lie?"

These words are from the second verse of "Drink With Me." As anyone who has read the book or seen the play knows, Grantaire likes to drink. :)

Answer: Lesgles

The Friends of the ABC call Lesgles "Boussuet" "for the sake of brevity".
5. In the musical, what song contains the lines "You see, I told you so. There's lots of things I know. 'Ponine, she knows her way around."

Eponine accepts Marius' request to find Cosette. This is right before "The ABC Cafe."
6. In the novel, what is Cosette's real name?

Azelma is Eponine's sister. Magnon is a criminal associated with Patron Minette as well as a former servant of Monsieur Gillenormand. Favourite is a friend of Fantine's in happier days.

Answer: Javert and Valjean

"The Confrontation" takes place right after Fantine dies, when Javert arrives to arrest "Monsieur le Mayor" Madeleine (Valjean)
8. In the musical, to whom does Valjean say "You talk too much"?

Answer: Javert

At the barricade, Javert, expecting Valjean to kill him, says, "How right you should kill with a knife!" Valjean cuts the ropes tying him to a chair and replies, "You talk too much. Your life is safe in my hands."
9. In the novel, how many children do the Thenardiers have?

Answer: five

Azelma, Eponine, and Gavroche are all children of the Thenardiers, as well as two other little boys whom Thenardier sells to Magnon.

While Eponine delivers the letter in the play, in the novel it is Gavroche whom Marius sends.
11. In what year is Valjean released from the galleys/chain gang at Toulon?

Answer: 1815

The musical begins in 1815 at Toulon with Valjean being released on parole. The novel begins with lots of background information about the bishop, but eventually the story arrives at 1815, when Valjean arrives in Digne after being released from the galleys.
12. In the musical and novel, who is shot collecting ammunition for the barricade?

Answer: Gavroche

In a very emotion scene, Gavroche jumps over the barricade to collect ammunition from dead French soldiers, as the insurgents are running low. He dies singing, in the novel as well as the musical.

After Eponine dies, Enjolras remarks that "She is the first to fall, the first of us to fall upon this barricade."
15. In the novel, who goes on trial, accused of being Jean Valjean?

Answer: Champmathieu

Javert gives a long explanation of how the name "Jean Valjean" was turned into the alias "Champmathieu." He, of course, is wrong, and Valjean goes to the trial and saves Champmathieu.
