Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who sang this? "Look down, look down. Don't look 'em in the eye!"

Answer: The "Chain Gang" at Toulon

These are the first words sung in the musical. Valjean did sing along with this song, but other members of the "Chain Gang" sang the song "Look Down/ Prologue." The other members are usually referred to as Prisoner One and Prisoner Two when you look at the lyrics of this song. They generally do not have names.
2. Which lyric is the odd one out?

Answer: Yes! It means I'm free!

It is this one because it is Valjean's first line, while all the others are Valjean's, Gavroche's, and Enjorlas's last. Valjean sings his final words during the song Valjean's "Death/ Finale." Gavroche sings these words during the song "Gavroche's Death/ Little People Reprise." He dies from a gun wound that he received while retrieving ammunition. Enjorlas sings these words right before the song "Final Battle".

He dies at the summit of the barricade, flag in hand. *sniff sniff*
3. In what song does Thenardier sing this line? "Watch 'em run amuck!"

Answer: One Day More

This is Thenardier and M. Thenardier's solo verse in "One Day More." The entire verse goes...
"Watch 'em run amuck,
Catch 'em as they fall,
Never know your luck
When there's a free for all!
Here a little 'dip'
There a little 'touch''
Most of 'em are goners
So they won't miss much!"
4. Who sang this? "You, at the barricade listen to this!"

Answer: An Army Officer

These are the first words sung by an army officer during the song "Final Battle." He sings about how no one is coming to help the rebels. "The people of Paris sleep in their beds! You have on chance! No chance at all! Why throw your lives away?!" he sings to them. But Enjorlas has different plans. *sniff sniff again*
5. Who sang this and during which song? "What a life I might have known..."

Answer: Eponine; "One Day More"

During the song "One Day More", amongst all the singing, you hear Eponine crying out sadly these words. Her verse goes...
"One more day all on my own....
One more day with him not caring....
What a life I might have known....
But he never saw me there!"
6. What is the correct wording for this line? And what is the name of the song? "Ready for the call, sittin' down or standin' up or anyway at all!"

Answer: Ready for the call, standin' up or lyin' down or anyway at all!; "Lovely Ladies"

The other three lines I completely made up! None of them were from real songs.
The entire verse of "Lovely Ladies" goes:
"Lovely ladies
Waiting for a bite
Waiting for the customers
Who only come at night
Lovely ladies
Ready for the call
Standing up or lying down
Or any way at all
Bargain prices up against the wall!"
7. Who sang this? "Here's something new. I think I'll give it a try."

Answer: Bamatabois

Bamatabois is the man who threw snow on Fantine's back because she didn't do what he wanted. He then called the police on her, when Valjean stepped in (under the assumed name of Madaline) and took her to the hospital. All this was sung during the song "Fantine's Arrest".
8. What does the song "I Dreamed a Dream" mean?

Answer: Having your love leave you

Fantine sings about the father of her daughter (Cosette) and how he left her. Having a hard life was about the song "At the End of the Day." The "comical and funny" one was about Thenardier's signature song, "Master of the House."
9. Who sang this? "Bargain prices up against a wall!"

Answer: Prostitutes in the street

This is sung during "Lovely Ladies." This was sung a few lines before Fantine became a prostitute. All during this song, Fantine sells her hair, her locket, and her teeth. Yes her teeth! It doesn't say so in the musical, but in the book it does.
10. What percent does Thenardier charge you for looking in the mirror twice?

Answer: Two percent

"Two percent for lookin' in the mirror twice!" is sung by Thenardier during "Master of the House." He also charges "Three percent for sleeping with the window shut!"

Thenardier and M. Thenardier have three named children, as well as two unnamed boys (according to the book). Eponine is the only one mentioned in the musical. She is the oldest, then come Alemza and the littlest, Gavroche! Yes the Gavroche who sings "Little People"!
