The Broadway musical opened in 1958. The movie, starring Nancy Kwan and James Shigeta, was produced in 1961.
2. "Plant a Radish"

Answer: The Fantasticks

The Fantastics opened in 1960. Harvey Schmidt provided the music and Tom Jones the lyrics.
3. "The Ladies Who Lunch"

Unlike other musicals, "Company" is composed of short vignettes. "The Ladies Who Lunch" just happens to be a favorite of mine.
4. "Moonfall"

Answer: The Mystery of Edwin Drood

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood", or "Drood", is based on a Charles Dickens novel of the same name. The book was published in 1871.

This musical is based on the novel "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson.
6. "At the Ballet"

Answer: A Chorus Line

"A Chorus Line" opened off-Broadway at The Public Theater on May 21, 1975. With music composed by Marvin Hamlisch, the original Broadway production was produced and choreographed by Michael Bennett.
7. "I'll Know"

Answer: Guys and Dolls

The musical "Guys and Dolls" was based on Damon Runyon's short stories.
8. "I Believe My Heart"

Answer: The Woman in White

The musical is based on a novel of the same name written by Wilkie Collins in 1859.
9. "When You're in Love"

Answer: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

The movie version starred Jane Powell and Howard Keel, one of my personal favorites.
10. "Too Beautiful for Words"

Answer: The Color Purple

The novel of the same name, by Alice Walker, won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It was also made into a movie starring Oprah Winfrey.
