Aphrodite is the goddess of love. The Romans called her Venus. There are many versions of how she was born. The most famous being that she arose from the sea. Thinking that many men would fight over her beauty, Zeus decided to marry her off to his son, Hephaestus.

She was very unhappy with him, though, and had many affairs with other gods and mortals. Her most famous affair is with Ares, the god of war. Aphrodite's symbols are the dove, the scallop shell, and roses.
