The Wafd are the extreme Nationalist party of Egypt. The word comes from the Arabic.

Answer: April 30th

Walpurgis night is on the eve of May 1st, and is the time when witches are supposed to hold revels. The name comes from Saint Walpurgis who was involved in witchery.

Watchet is the term, from the middle English, for a pale-blue.

A wassail is an archaic word for a drinking bout. The word comes from an ale that was flavoured with apple and spices. It is actually old English for 'be thy well'.

A wahine is the name for a Maori woman...or a New Zealander and Wellington is the capital.

Wainscot is the wooden panelling of a room's wall. It can also be the skirting board. It comes from the Dutch word 'wagenschot' which was a room divider made of oakwood.

Answer: Africa

The whidah-bird is a small African bird that has long tail feathers.

Answer: Go round counter-clockwise

Withershins means counter-clockwise and comes from the Norse word meaning 'against journey'...i.e. opposite way to the sun.
