Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is Miep married to?

Answer: Jan

Miep was one of the "Secret Annex's" helpers and was later on married to Jan, who was also a helper of the Van Daans and the Franks.
2. Anne got along really well with her mother.

Answer: False

Frequently during Anne's diary she talks about her quarrels with her mother.
3. How many other people were hiding with the Frank family in the annex?

Answer: 4

In her diary, Anne used pseudonyms for the four people who joined her family in the annex. She referred to them as Mr and Mrs Van Daan and their son Peter, and Albert Dussel. In reality their names were Hermann and Auguste van Pels and their son Peter, and Fritz Pfeffer.
4. Between what hours of the day on August 4th 1944 did an SS car pull up at the annex to arrest the members?

Answer: 10:00-10:30am and 10-11am

On the morning of August 4, 1944, sometime between ten and ten-thirty, a car pulled up at 263 Prinsengracht. Sevral figures emerged: a SS sergant, Karl Josph Silberbauer, in full uniform; and at least three Dutch members of the Security Police, armed but in civilan clothes. Someone must have tipped them off.
5. "Verschwyu" means what?

Answer: disappeared

In the book Anne mentions that her throat had "verschwyu" (disappeared) when she had a cold.
6. What date was the last entry in Anne's diary?

Answer: 1st August 1944

Anne's last entry starts with "Little bundle of contradictions" and afterwards (not written by Anne in the diary) she gets taken away to a Jewish concentration camp, where her life ends.
7. Anne liked Dussel.

Answer: False

When Dussel the dentist moved into the Annex, Anne had to share a room with him instead of Margot. She frequently complained about his taking hours in the bathroom and other things he did.
8. On Friday, June 30, 1944, what was Anne's only sentence in English?

Answer: Bad weather at a stretch to the 30th June

Anne spoke Dutch and German usually, but was learning English gradually. This was the one sentence she wrote in English in her diary.
9. Otto Frank composed a poem for Anne's birthday.

Answer: True

"As youngest among us, but small no more,
Your life can be trying for we have the chore
Of becoming your teachers, a terrible bore.
"We've got experience! Take it from me!"
"We've done this all before, you see."
We know the ropes, we know the game.
Since time immemorial, always the same.
One's own shortcomings are nothing but fluff,
But everyone else's are heavier stuff.
Faultfinding comes easy when this is our plight,
But it's hard for your parents, try as they might,
To treat you with fairness, and kindness as well.
Nitpicking's a habit that's hard to dispel.
When you're living with old folks, all you can do
Is put up with their nagging-it's hard but it's true.
The pill may be bitter, but down it must go,
For it's meant to keep the peace, you know.
The many months here have not been in vain,
Since wasting time is against your grain.
You read and study nearly all the day,
Determined to chase the boredom away.
The more difficult question, much harder to bear,
Is "What on earth do I have to wear?
I've got no more panties, my clothes are too tight,
My shirt is a loincloth, I'm really a sight!
To put on my shoes I must cut off my toes,
Oh dear, I'm plagued with so many woes!"
10. Who was the sole survivor out of all the people hiding in the Annex?

Answer: Otto Frank

Otto Frank was the only survivor out of all eight people hiding in the Annex. He later found Anne's diary, and edited and published it as Anne wished.
