Answer: Lydia sent an atlatl dart between his legs

As a seasoned hunter Lydia was able to track Rikard. With an early start on the second day, they almost caught Rikard still asleep. Lydia's atlatl dart was meant to wound him in the leg; however, it tripped him up instead, giving Thorn time to catch up with him.

Answer: Rikard had been murdered

Thorn released Rikard once he had got independent confirmation that the Raven was ahead of them on the river. Vargas, one of Zavac's men who had been left at Krall for some supplies, overheard this and killed Rikard for betraying Zavac. The Heron crew were suspects as Rikard had been seen on board the Heron in chains when they arrived. Witnesses supported the Heron's story that they had nothing to do with the murder.

Answer: Zavac had bribed the Gatmeister to detain them

Vargas had caught up with Zavac at Bayrath and informed him that the Herons were on his trail. Zavac decided to pay a hefty bribe to the Gatmeister to have him detain the Herons "permanently". The murder of Rikard gave the Gatmeister sufficient cause to arrest the Herons. He then planned to have them executed, regardless of whether they were guilty or not.

Answer: Lydia got Jesper's lock-picking tools

Lydia managed to avoid being locked up with the others by claiming she was a passenger from Limmat rather than a crew member. She was taken by the Gatmeister as a servant but escaped and, after finding the cell where the crew were being held, was asked by Jesper to get his lock-picking tools from the ship. Surprise and force of numbers allowed them to overcome the guards once the lock was picked.

Answer: Taking a detour via some rapids

In jail another prisoner had told them about a secondary channel that bypassed Bayrath. The only problem was a section of rapids through a gorge that they would have to negotiate in the ship. On inspection, Hal decided that it was feasible.

Answer: They helped defeat the pirates

Black smoke around a bend alerted them to the attack. The Seahawk dealt with two boats whilst the Heron dealt with the other two. The traders were very grateful for the assistance as the Seahawk could not cope with all four of the pirate ships by itself.

Answer: Get chased in by the Seahawk

The plan was to pretend to be pirates. To back this up, Mannoc agreed to 'pursue' them as they approached Raguza. Once safe in the haven, they spun a story to give them credibility as pirates and at the same time cause problems for Zavac with the Korpaljo (leader of the pirate haven).

After pursuing the Raven for so long, Hal feared that Zavac could slip away under oars during the night when the wind had died down and the Heron was at a disadvantage. His plan all along was to have a sea battle, inwhich he believed that the Heron's manoeuverability gave them the advantage and the ability to avoid the ram.

The Mangler crossbow would help reduce the manpower advantage that the Raven had.

Answer: The Raven was sunk and Zavac drowned

After dismasting the Raven, the Heron crew boarded her and Hal went to retrieve the Andomal. Zavac caught up with Hal but Thorn saved Hal, leaving Zavac trapped in the sinking Raven. The rest of the Raven crew either drowned, were killed or abandoned ship.

Answer: She went to Hallasholm on the Heron

She chose not to return to Limmat as she did not want anything to do with Barat, who planned to marry her. She had no family left after her grandfather had been killed during Zavac's raid. There was also the question of the emeralds that she had stolen from Limmat which she felt would make things difficult if she returned.
