Answer: David Eddings

David Eddings writes fantasy stories with his wife Leigh. The characters in the question are in his Belgariad and Mallorean series. He has also written other series such as his Elenium and Tamuli series with Sparhawk as the main character. On a more personal note, I believe him to be one of the best fantasy writers of all time.
2. Which author won a Nobel Prize for literature in 1983 for his or her work in the field?

Answer: William Golding

William Golding has written many novels, foremost of his great works is the Lord of the Flies, which he wrote in 1954. He gave up teaching seven years later to become a full time writer. He has also written The Brass Butterfly, a play which debuted in 1958. Sadly, he passed away in his home in 1993, 5 years after he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988.

Ender's game, authored by Orson Scott card, has won numerous awards, and is considered one of Science-fiction's greatest works. Accompanying books are Ender's Shadow, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the Mind.

The Chrysalids is a ground-breaking story by John Wyndham where, as mentioned before, eight children communicate through 'thought-shapes', but when their secret is discovered, they must flee for a new world where deviations are tolerated. It is a story with various feelings and emotions... all but happiness. It is a touching story that will really get you thinking.

Answer: Arrakis

Arrakis is a desert planet in a galaxy far, far away (sounds like Star Wars, eh?). Its native people is the Fremen, and it is most valuable because of it's production of it's spice, an addictive agent only found on Arrakis.

Invisible wearing the ring, a seizes a large gold cup and returns to the camp with it as a trophy.

Growing up in the Shire, he led a peaceful life in his hole at Bag End when it was broken up by the appearance of Gandalf, the wizard, who led him on a journey to recover the stolen treasure of the dwarves. Upon returning from his journey, he took young Frodo as his heir and then left to live out his days at Rivendell, home of Elrond and many elves.

His troll friend Keltset deals with the gnome company, providing time for Shea and his rescuer to escape.

David Eddings' The Belgariad takes you through a magical journey with sorcerers and Gods, magic and sorcery. He journeys to retrieve the Orb of Aldur and finally, with the Orb set into the pommel of his great sword, goes on to meet the God Torak in a fight to the death, depicting the outcome of the Universe itself.
