Instead, the second army joined the first as deserters and traded in their swords for a shovel and pick. The Empire was absolutely gobsmacked, and sent yet another army out to punish the deserters, but once again this army became goldhunters themselves. In the end, the Deikan Empire had no army to defend itself.
