Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the movie, India Wilkes hates Scarlett because she stole India's beau, Charles Hamilton, from her. In the book, who is the man who left India when he became captivated by Scarlett's charms?

Answer: Stuart Tarleton

In the book, Stu Tarleton was courting India Wilkes when Scarlett decided to make him notice her. Thereafter, both Stu and his twin, Brent, were devoted to Scarlett, to India's chagrin. Then, at the barbecue, Scarlett steals Charles Hamilton from India's sister, Honey, who is not a character in the movie.
2. In the movie, Scarlett whispers something to Cathleen Calvert about Rhett Butler. In the book, we find out what she says. What is her question to Cathleen?

Answer: "Did she have a baby?"

Cathleen tells Scarlett that Rhett took a Charleston girl out buggy riding without a chaperon, and that they stayed out all night. It caused a scandal when Rhett refused to marry her the next day.
3. True or false: In the movie, Scarlett's wedding was the day after Melanie and Ashley's wedding.

Answer: True

In the book, Scarlett set her wedding for the day before Melanie and Ashley's wedding.
4. In the book, Scarlett was pregnant four times. How many times was she pregnant in the movie?

Answer: Two

In the book, she was pregnant with Wade Hampton, Ella Lorena, Eugenie Victoria (Bonnie), and the baby that she miscarried when she fell down the stairs. The movie shows only her pregnancy with Bonnie and the miscarriage.
5. True or false: In the book, Melanie offers her wedding ring as a donation at the Bazaar, and Scarlett follows suit, for the same reason.

Answer: False

In the book, Scarlett takes her ring off because she feels left out when everyone else is offering jewelry to donate to The Cause; Melanie attributes her motives to pure unselfishness and loyalty, and does the same. In the movie, Melanie offers her ring first.
6. When Rhett and Scarlett are waltzing at the bazaar in the movie, Rhett tells Scarlett he wants to hear the words "I love you" from her. Does he say this in the book?

Answer: No

Rhett doesn't even let on that he loves Scarlett years later when he asks her to marry him; he is aware that she is still in love with Ashley and doesn't want to put his heart on the line for her to break.
7. Which of the following Atlanta characters from the book does not exist in the movie?

Answer: Archie

In the book, Archie is an ex-convict whom Melanie allows to sleep in her basement, and who stays on out of obligation to her. In the movie, several of Archie's lines in the scene where they are waiting for news of the ill-fated Klan raid are said by Mammy.
8. In the movie, Gerald O'Hara dies jumping his horse over a fence chasing after Jonas Wilkerson. How does he die in the book?

Answer: He gets drunk after refusing to sign an oath stating that he was a Union sympathizer, and breaks his neck jumping his horse over a fence on the way home

Suellen had tried to take advantage of Gerald's addled mind by making him sign an oath that he didn't understand. Gerald's senses had returned at the last minute, and he refused. Feeling betrayed by his daughter, he had gotten drunk and broken his neck trying to jump the fence the way he had when he was younger.
9. In the book, Suellen ends up marrying Will Benteen, a "Cracker" who comes to live at Tara after the war. Does Suellen marry in the movie?

Answer: No

Will Benteen is not a character in the movie-and so Suellen's marriage is never mentioned.
10. In the movie, the dress Rhett chooses for Scarlett to wear to Ashley's surprise party is red. What color is it in the book?

Answer: Green

"He fumbled and drew out her new jade-green watered-silk dress. It was cut low over the bosom and the skirt was draped back over an enormous bustle and on the bustle was a huge bunch of pink velvet roses. 'Wear that,' he said, tossing it on the bed and coming toward her..."
