Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the main character in this story?

Answer: Charles

Woodsy was the name of an owl on a poster in the school corridor.
2. Charles was in third-grade. Who was his teacher?

Answer: Miss Bird

Charles didn't like Miss Bird. He felt she was out to destroy him. Ms Sharpe wasn't a teacher in the story, I made her up.
3. What was the name of the school Charles attended?

Answer: Acorn Street Grammar School

4. When a pupil needed to use the bathroom they had to ask Miss Bird if they could go to the 'basement'?

Answer: False

Miss Bird did not allow children to go to the 'basement', she said that was where the boilers were kept and well-groomed ladies and gentlemen would never go down there. They go to the 'bathroom'.
5. While in the bathroom Charles saw a large animal. What was it?

Answer: Tiger

He saw the tiger lying down at the far end of the bathroom, just underneath the window.
6. Who came looking for Charles?

Answer: Kenny

Charles had hurried out of the bathroom and was trying to decide if he had imagined seeing the tiger when 'a hand slid around his neck'. It was Kenny, Miss Bird had sent him to look for Charles.
7. Kenny went into the bathroom to prove to Charles there was no tiger. Was he seen again?

Answer: No

Kenny thought Charles was making the 'tiger' up. He went into the bathroom with Charles and went round the corner. After running back out Charles managed to force himself back into the bathroom. All he saw was a torn piece of shirt caught in one set of the claws.
8. Charles badly needed to 'go' to the bathroom but was afraid of the tiger. Where did he 'go'?

Answer: Basin

Charles was too afraid to use the urinals. He figured the safest place to 'go' was the porcelain basin as it was right next to the door. Miss Bird came in and caught him.
9. After the tiger 'got' Miss Bird Charles went back to the classroom. What time was this?

Answer: quarter to eleven

10. He began to read about 'Bill at the Rodeo'. What book was this in?

Answer: Roads to Everywhere

It tells you this at the very end of the story. King has again left it up to the reader to decide what may or may not have happened next. Bit of a weird story this but I guess we've all had at least one teacher we would have liked the 'tiger' to take care of.
