Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the traitor that led the failed rebellion in the beginning of the play?

Answer: Macdonwald

Macdonwald was killed in battle by Macbeth. Also, joining Macdonwald's rebellion was the Thane of Cawdor, who was also a traitor. As a reward for being heroic in battle, King Duncan made Macbeth Thane of Cawdor.
2. Which friend of Macbeth's also witnessed the initial prophecies given to Macbeth?

Answer: Banquo

Banquo also received a prophecy himself which said that he wouldn't become a King of Scotland, but that his children would be.
3. King Duncan is killed by whom?

Answer: Macbeth

Lady Macbeth was the one that really convinced Macbeth to kill King Duncan by saying that if he didn't kill him he wouldn't be a man. Lady Macbeth also said that she would have killed him herself had he not looked so much like her own father while he slept.
4. Which two characters flee after they realize that King Duncan is dead?

Answer: Malcolm and Donalbain

Malcolm and Donalbain fear for their lives because their father was just killed, so they flee. Malcolm goes to England, and Donalbain goes to Ireland. As a result of their suddenly leaving Scotland, Malcolm and Donalbain look like suspects in King Duncan's murder.
5. What character purposely didn't show up at Macbeth's feast?

Answer: Macduff

Macduff does not trust Macbeth as king from the start. Instead of going to the feast he went to his castle in Fife. Lennox did show up to the feast, and Malcolm and Siward were not invited.
6. In total, how many murderers does Macbeth send to kill Banquo and Fleance?

Answer: three

Macbeth wanted the murder done far from his castle so as not to arouse suspicion. The murderers did not succeed in their murdering however, as Fleance escaped under the cover of darkness because one of the murderers dropped his torch.
7. Macbeth sees Fleance's ghost during the feast.

Answer: False

Fleance is not dead at the time, nor does he die for the rest of the play. It is Banquo's ghost that Macbeth sees. Nobody else at the feast saw this ghost, so when Macbeth started acting weird people began to distrust him.
8. How many soldiers did the King of England give Malcolm to help him fight Macbeth?

Answer: 10,000

This invasion of Scotland was launched by Malcolm so he could regain his rightful throne. Macduff allied with Malcolm so he could get revenge on Macbeth, because Macbeth killed Macduff's family.

Answer: Young Siward

Young Siward is killed during the battle between England and Scotland at the end of the play. Macbeth is able to kill Young Siward because Young Siward was born of a women, and as one of the prophecies said, no man born of a woman could harm Macbeth. Siward later mentions that Young Siward died the best possible death.
10. Who is King of Scotland at the end of the play?

Answer: Malcolm
