Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Kelsier's crew hired by the skaa rebellion to accomplish?

Answer: Overthrow the Final Empire

Yeden hires Kelsier's crew to supply him with an army, and to provide a favorable opportunity to seize control of the capital city, Luthadel. The crew is incredulous because in the last one thousand years the rebellion has accomplished nothing except the slaughter of its own members at the hands of the Empire.
2. Trap, who had been the crew's Smoker on previous jobs, was unavailable to assist with this assignment, and was replaced by Clubs. Why was Trap not available?

Answer: He was dead.

"Trap's dead. The Ministry finally caught up with him a couple months ago. Didn't even bother sending him to the Pits -- they beheaded him on the spot."

The crew operates out of Clubs' shop, where he and his apprentice Smokers provide protection for the entire crew.

A Smoker burns copper, which gives everyone within his "coppercloud" protection from the senses of a Seeker.
3. Mare, the wife of Kelsier, was an Allomancer. She died after being sent to the Pits of Hathsin. What was her specialty?

Answer: She was a Tineye.

Mare and Kelsier were captured by the Lord Ruler himself, and sent to the Pits. He "snapped" when she died, which allowed him to use his Allomantic abilities.

A Tineye burns tin, which enhances all of his senses.
4. Vin's task was to pose as a member of the nobility, and to gain their trust. As they became more comfortable with her, the nobles would likely let their guard down, and Vin might hear interesting tidbits which would be valuable to the team. What was her false identity?

Answer: She posed as a distant relative of Lord Renoux.

Originally, Vin was to play the part of Renoux's heir, but because of her lack of refinement it was changed to a lesser relation. The change worked well for the crew for several reasons. As Lord Renoux noted:

"Yes, this will work much better. Everyone assumes that House Renoux will eventually join the high nobility, so they'll accept Vin into their ranks out of courtesy. However, she herself will be unimportant enough that most people will ignore her. That is the ideal situation for what we want her to do."
5. Which member of the crew trained the skaa army in the Arguois Caverns? He was later replaced by Yeden when he returned to Luthadel to infiltrate the Garrison.

Answer: Ham

Ham, the crew's Thug, trained the rebel army in the Arguois Caverns, where the Lord Ruler was reluctant to send his forces. General Ham was replaced by General Yeden when Kelsier decided he needed Ham in Luthadel to gather intelligence at the Garrison - he was the only one with military contacts. It also gave the army a chance to get used to being led by Yeden, which was important since the army was to be turned over to him.

A Thug burns pewter, which enhances his physical abilities.
6. What was the primary method of transportation used by Kelsier to commute between the city of Luthadel and the Renoux Estate in Fellise?

Answer: The Spikeway

The Spikeway was composed of bronze bars planted in the ground at fixed intervals along the main road from Luthadel to Fellise. The bars allowed Coinshots to travel the distance between the cities twice as fast as a man on horseback.

A Coinshot burns steel, which allows him to push off of nearby metals.
7. Vin trained with each of the Allmoncers privately in an attempt to master her skills. Which of the following had no master practitioner on the crew?

Answer: Rioter

Pewterarm is another name for Thug, and Ham trained her in that field.

A Lurcher burns iron, which allows him to pull on nearby metals. Vin considers Kelsier to be the master of steel and iron (Coinshot and Lurcher), even though he was Mistborn, rather than a true Lurcher.

A Soother burns brass, which allows him to soothe the emotions of others. Breeze is the master Soother on the crew.

A Rioter burns zinc, which allows him to riot the emotions of others. There is no Rioter on the crew.
8. Who first presents Vin with a handkerchief to signal his interest in pursuing a relationship with her?

Answer: Lestibournes

Lestibournes is Club's nephew, who is also known as Spook. He and Elend both present handkerchiefs to Vin. She is at first confused by the gesture until Sazed explains:

"In noble society, Mistress, a handkerchief is the traditional gift a young man gives a lady that he wishes to seriously court."
9. Sazed spends a great deal of time translating a logbook that was recovered by Vin. Where did she find it?

Answer: Kredik Shaw

While trying to escape from the Steel Inquisitor that was pursuing her within the Lord Ruler's palace, Kredik Shaw, Vin ducked into a room with a golden altar. In that room she found the logbook, and used it to deflect projectiles. It wasn't until much later that its value was made clear.
10. Who killed Kar, the leader of the Steel Inquisitors, in the Lord Ruler's throne room?

Answer: Marsh

Marsh and Kelsier are brothers. Marsh is a Seeker who was himself turned into a Steel Inquisitor, and so he was familiar with their weaknesses. He pulled the steel spike out of Kar's back, thereby killing him.

A Seeker burns bronze, which allows him to sense when people nearby are using Allmoancy.
