What was said in the manga kind of contradicts some of the known facts about the Police Force. On the one hand we know that it was created by Tobirama Senju, as were many other organisations in the village, but Itachi tells Sasuke that it was created by the Uchiha Clan.

Itachi was a very talented Ninja since his youth, graduating from the Ninja Academy at age of seven, at the top of his class. Still, he is not the youngest one we know of: Kakashi graduated at the astonishing age of five. The entering and graduation age for the Academy is not specific. It all depends on the student's knowledge and skill.

The ANBU (Dark Side), which is short for Special Assassination and Tactical Squad, are ninja with hidden identities, performing special high-level missions. They are personally hand picked and under the direct command of the village's Kage.

Usually, ANBU teams are formed out of four members, of which one is a captain - the leader of the team. Itachi becomes a captain himself at age of thirteen.

Shisui was a ninja from the Hidden Leaf village and a member of the Uchiha Clan. Also, like Itachi, he was an ANBU member, known and feared even among the Five Great Ninja Countries for his Genjutsu (Illusionary techniques) skills.

Shisui was one of the few Uchiha possessing a Mangekyo Sharingan, with which he had developed a unique technique, Kotoamatsukami (Distinguished Heavenly Gods), that gave him the ability to take control of his targets, without them even noticing that it ever happened.

The actual reason was the activation the Mangekyo Sharingan (Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye). It's activated only when the user suffers trauma. For example, Madara, Izuna, Obito, and Itachi gained it from witnessing a death of someone close.

The design of the Mangekyo Sharingan differs from one user to another, also some of the powers too.

Coming from a similar background, during their days at the Ninja Academy, neither of them had any family or close friends to bond with.
