Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the youngest boy in the book?

Answer: Ponyboy

At 14, Ponyboy was the youngest, being the baby brother of Sodapop and Darry.
2. Which Greaser originally came from New York?

Answer: Dallas

Dallas had come from New York, which probably explained why he was so tough and hard, having been involved in New York gangs.
3. Who kills who in the story?

Answer: Johnny kills Bob

Johnny kills Bob, one of the Soc kids who jumps them in the park. He saw Bob and a couple of the other Socs drowning Ponyboy in the park fountain and stabbed him with his switchblade.
4. Which Greaser visited Dallas in the hospital, that he did not expect?

Answer: Tim

Tim Shepard, another tough older Greaser, came to see Dallas when Dallas was recuperating in the hospital. Tim was just as tough as Dallas, if not actually tougher when it came to fighting.
5. Which of the Greasers was considered the comedian of the group?

Answer: Two-bit

Two-bit was so named because he always had to throw his "two-bits" into whatever was said. He was the comic relief of the Greaser group. He only went to school to be with his friends; since he was eighteen and still a junior, it was pretty clear he wasn't going to school to get more knowledge.
6. Who of the Greaser boys was considered "movie-star" handsome?

Answer: Sodapop

All three of the brothers, Ponyboy, Darry, and Sodapop were considered good looking, yet even Johnny thought that Sodapop's looks were those of movie star quality. Ponyboy was shocked and surprised when Johnny and Cherry thought he looked like Sodapop since he didn't think he was good looking at all. In fact, he wished he looked like Paul Newman.
7. Who was Cherry's friend at the drive-in?

Answer: Marcia

Being fed up with their drunk and disorderly boyfriends, Cherry and Marcia leave them in the car and go sit in the outdoor seats to finish watching the movie. It was there that the girls are introduced to Johnny, Dallas, and Ponyboy, who have no car (and no money, which is why they snuck into the drive-in).
8. Which of the following rode along with Ponyboy in the ambulance and called the boys heros?

Answer: Jerry

Jerry had been one of the teachers at the church when it was burning, and so he went with Ponyboy when the ambulance took him to the hospital. He was amazed how brave the boys were to go into the burning building to save the children. He was even more amazed to find out that they were Greasers, and wanted by the police.
9. Who owns the blue Mustang?

Answer: Randy

Randy, one of the Socs who had been part of the group who had tried to kill Ponyboy, owned the Mustang. Randy actually turned out to be a decent person and sought out Ponyboy to talk to him person to person and not Soc to Greaser. He chose not to fight, seeing it as pointless, as there will always be class distinctions.
10. Who was unofficially the leader of the Greasers?

Answer: Darry

Darry was the oldest, most responsible, smartest, and most level-headed of the boys, which explains why they looked up to him and for direction in what they did.
