Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'The Lion's Lady': In whose receiving room do Lyon and Christina first meet?

Answer: Lord Carlson's

Lyon and Christina meet one another at Lord Carlson's home after Rhone (a reputed ladies man) is dismissed easily by the princess. Sir Reynolds performs the introduction between the two future lovers. They meet again later at Lord Baker's home. Sir Richards is Lyon's former director.
2. 'Guardian Angel': What biblical figure does Caine compare Jade to when they first meet?

Answer: Judas

Jade asks Caine to kill "someone" (later revealed to be herself) for 30 pieces of silver. That amount of currency is the same that Judas was given to betray Jesus. Jade even says, "I am no Judas, sir."
3. 'The Gift': Colin asks Nathan what he thinks of his bride, Sara, when they spy on her at a garden party. What is Nathan's response?

Answer: "She'll fit through the window."

Sara's family, the Winchesters are a notoriously overweight brood. Colin jokes to Nathan that his plan to capture his bride from her bedroom window may not work because she might not fit through it. Colin uses this possibility to get Nathan to spy on Lady Sara.
4. 'Castles': Alesandra told Colin she had two reasons for coming to London. One reason was to find out more about her friend's disappearance. What was the second reason?

Answer: To marry Colin

Colin's father, the duke, mentions that he thinks Colin would make her a good husband. Alesandra is immediately on board with the decision because she needs to marry so quickly.
5. 'Rebellious Desire': Caroline rescues "Mr. Smith" from highway men. What is "Mr. Smith's" real identity?

Answer: Beau Brummel

Caroline helps Beau Brummel, a real historical figure from the Regency Era, (Brummel was the fashion guru of his day). Because he is so flustered by his brush with death, Caroline says she will just call him Mr. Smith. Jokingly she inserts that she could call him George after the English king. Little does she know that Beau's first name really is George.
6. 'The Lion's Lady': What is the name of the English family Christina invented to placate Lyon when he questioned her about her past?

Answer: The Summertons

When it became apparent to Christina that Lyon wouldn't give up without some information about her, she concocted a tale about being the ward to an English family named the Summertons. Though throughout the book, she forgets their name more than once. Later, she spins another tale about being raised in a French convent.
7. 'Guardian Angel': What does Christina pack in a satchel for Jade (which Caine removes) when she leaves Lyon's townhouse?

Answer: Weapons

After Christina finds Jade's knife in the bedroom, she sees Jade as a kindred spirit. Christina gives a satchel full of weapons to her new friend so she can protect Caine. Naturally, Caine finds this more than mildly ridiculous and insulting.
8. 'The Gift': Which collection of Sara's accessories does Nathan consider a menace?

Answer: her parasols

Sara's parasols are indirectly or directly responsible for many mishaps on the ship. Nathan wants to throw the rest of them overboard, but Sara pleads with him not to. Instead she burns them in the 'hearth' in their cabin, thus creating another mishap.
9. 'Castles': Who is Colin's butler?

Answer: Flannaghan

Colin's brother, Caine, has a trusted butler named Sterns. When Colin got his own household, Sterns offered the services of his nephew, Flannaghan. Much like his uncle, Flannaghan is more like a family member than servant.
10. 'Rebellious Desire': What is the name of the tavern where Caroline, Milford and Bradford brawl after their carriage is overturned?

Answer: The Mischief Maker

When the trio find themselves stranded with a broken carriage on the wrong side of town, Bradford goes to look for help while Milford and Caroline go into a tavern. Caroline says, "The Mischief Maker," when she sees the sign, "What an odd name. Are we to go inside and make mischief then?"
11. 'The Lion's Lady': What word does Christina confuse with "philanderer"?

Answer: philosopher

Lyon calls Christina a philosopher and she gets very upset. He is rightfully confused until he realizes that she has mixed up the words. Christina insists that it is an easy mistake because the words are close in spelling.
12. 'Guardian Angel': What was Caine's operative name when he worked for Sir Richards in the War Department?

Answer: Hunter

At the very beginning of the novel, Caine is referred to as Hunter when he is in search of Pagan. Jade learns his operative name when she reads his war office file and thinks it is a fitting description.
13. 'The Gift': What ironic ailment does Nathan suffer from?

Answer: seasickness

While it might seem a little bit more than merely inconvenient for a ship's captain to get seasick, Nathan tries not to let it slow him down too much. Sara does figure it out and uses it against her husband when he ticks her off.
14. 'Castles': What is the name of the relative Alesandra makes up so she can play the stock exchange?

Answer: Uncle Albert

Uncle Albert happens to have Alesandra's initials, so when she wants to purchase a stock she writes those instead of a name. She is forceful in her opinion that men would rather deal with another man than take financial advice from a woman. Not long after she marries Colin, Uncle Albert "dies".
15. 'Rebellious Desire': What condition does Caroline equate with her love for Bradford?

Answer: a stomachache

When Caroline admits to loving the duke, Bradford asks her if it is painful to love him. Caroline replies, "Just like a stomachache." When Bradford finally reveals his feeling for Caroline he is equally romantic, "You were like a splinter under my skin. A constant bother."
16. 'The Lion's Lady': True or False? Elford, Christina's butler, refers to the Countess as "the old dragon".

Answer: False

Elford, and later Lyon, refer to Christina's aunt as "an old bat". Christina tries to curb Lyon's use of the term because of her respect for family and the elderly. Even though everyone agrees that is it an apt description.
17. 'Guardian Angel': True or False? Jade posted the fact that Caine fainted after the birth of their daughter in the dailies.

Answer: False

It was Sterns, Jade and Caine's butler, who took it upon himself to post that his master had swooned after the baby was born.
18. 'The Gift': True or False? The odious pirate captain who boards Nathan's ship is shot by Sara through the nose.

Answer: True

When the pirate captain tries to knock the gun away, it discharges and the bullet hits him in the nose. Sara is concerned because she inflicted the injury. Nathan wants to kill him for touching his wife. Sara pleads with her husband to not murder the pirates.

He puts it up to a vote and Sara wins after hinting that she will try to poison the crew with another pot of soup if they "disappoint" her.
19. 'Castles': True or False? Colin is furious when he finds the insert Alesandra had make for his boots.

Answer: False

Colin is not angry at all, though both Flannaghan and Alesandra are both worried that he will be because his disability is a touchy subject for him.
20. 'Rebellious Desire': True or False? Caroline and Bradford are always at each other's throats over the issue of trust.

Answer: True

Caroline is forever trying to get her husband to trust her. Bradford does not trust women in general, including his wife, because of his past brush with a disloyal woman.
21. 'The Lion's Lady': What is the name of Christina and Lyon's son?

Answer: Dakota

While Lyon wants a very traditional English name for their son, Cristina wants a traditional Native American name instead. They compromise on Dakota.
22. 'Guardian Angel': Black Harry came up the moniker "Pagan" for Jade, why?

Answer: Her hair

Black Harry nicknamed Jade "Pagan" because of her red hair. Caine takes a long while to come around to the notion that Jade is in fact the infamous pirate he had been hunting down.
23. 'The Gift': Nathan has Caine write out a list of endearments for him to call Sara. He tells her to pick out the ones she likes. Which ones does she pick?

Answer: "Sweetheart", "My Love" and "My Sweet"

Trying to be a more romantic and compassionate man does not come easy to Nathan. So, he asks his brother-in-law for help because Caine calls Jade by loving endearments.
24. 'Castles': What two creatures does Alesandra use as nicknames for Colin?

Answer: Dolphin and Dragon

Dolphin was given to Colin after his brush with a shark that caused his injury. When he was aboard the Emerald recovering from his wounds, Black Harry gave him the moniker as an insult because dolphins are gentle. Alesandra dubbed Colin a dragon because of his temperament and scowl.
25. 'Rebellious Desire': Who was behind all of Caroline's "accidents"?

Answer: Franklin

Franklin was behind all of the incidents that plagued Caroline once she reached England. He pushed her over the balcony to scare her into going back to Boston, then arranged for the carriage wheel to splinter with her inside. Lastly, he wrote her an awful letter threatening to kill her. Franklin was angry because he was written out of Uncle Milo's will in favor of Caroline.

He needed the money that the inheritance would bring.
