The chocolate charm Septimus gave Jenna certainly came in handy-without it Jenna might not have gotten free. After she cuts away the square of chocolate, she breaks off some pieces so she won't go hungry, then turns some pebbles into chocolate so she can bribe Thunder into coming with her.

Boy 409 was Septimus's only friend in the Young Army. On one of the Do-or-Die missions, Boy 409 fell over the side of the boat and was presumed to be drowned. But really he had swum to shore and survived in the woods, where the occupants of Camp Heap found him and started calling him "Wolf Boy."

Simon, escaping through the Farmlands on a newly stolen horse, thinks how easy it would be to make Septimus "disappear" forever.
