'The Outsiders' by S.E. Hinton Quiz

His full name is Sodapop Patrick Curtis. Michael is Ponyboy's middle name, and Shaynne is Darry's. This information is in the very end of the book, when Ponyboy is trying to write his theme. He ended up just writing names across the paper and drawing horses across it. He was out of ideas for his theme, he had tried to write about his father but it was just too painful.

Answer: Half of his paycheck

In Windrixville, Dally said that Soda found Ponyboy's sweatshirt at Buck's, so he gave Dally a letter and half his paycheck to give to Ponyboy. This showed that Sodapop really cared about Ponyboy and was worried about him because the Curtis family didn't really have a lot of money. Soda's letter to Pony was also very nice, though Ponyboy said that he could have improved his spelling.

Answer: Pepsi-Cola

Pepsi-Cola was Soda's Dad's nickname for him, and Darry rarely used it, but he did in chapter 7 because he knew how miserable Soda was about Sandy leaving him. Sandy moved to Florida to live with her Grandmother because she was pregnant, although the baby wasen't Soda's. Soda didn't really mind that, he told her that he would help raise the baby anyway, but she sent back his letter unopened. That and Darry and Ponyboy's fighting caused him to run out of the house near the end of the book.

Answer: Steve

Steve found Johnny's jacket lying on the ground, and when he picked it up he saw that there was blood on it. They looked around for Johnny and found him lying on the ground, beaten badly from the Socs, one of whom was wearing rings on his hand (Bob.) Johnny was more jumpy than ever after that, he was the most law-abiding of them all, but now he carried a six-inch switchblade in his back pocket. That switchblade really came in handy later in the story.

Answer: He rolled a drunk senior

Steve noticed that the ring was back on Dally's finger, and he asked if he broke up with Sylvia again. Dally said yes and it's for good this time because she was two timing on him while he was in jail. Ponyboy mentioned how he got the ring as he was narrating.

Answer: A ring

Johnny was beaten up by a Soc wearing rings. We found out that this was Bob when Pony, Johnny, and Two-Bit were walking Cherry and Marcia and the Socs drive by. Ponyboy noticed the rings on Bob's finger and how nervous Johnny looked, and he made the connection. Johnny killed Bob for two reasons: Bob was drowning Ponyboy and was going to beat him up again, and since he was drunk, he could have killed Johnny, too.

Answer: He broke into a liquor store

Before the rumble, Tim Shepard told Ponyboy that Curly had said he was a good kid, and Curly was in the reformatory for the next six months because he was caught breaking into a liquor store. He went on to call him "every unprintable name under the sun," in Tim's thinking, words of affection.

This kind of worried Ponyboy, because he knew that Tim's gang and the Brumly boys would just keep getting worse as they got older; they would grow up to be old hoods. Ponyboy was determined to not let that happen to him, he knew he wasn't going to live in a lousy neighborhood all of his life.

He knew that this wouldn't happen to Darry, Darry was going to go somewhere with his life.

Answer: Five

Ponyboy said that he took five aspirins when Darry and Sodapop weren't looking. He always did this because he couldn't sleep at night. (He couldn't sleep because he had a nightmare the night of his parents' funeral. Soda slept with him because the nightmares didn't happen as much when Soda was with him.) He usually took four, but Pony thought that five would get him through the rumble and maybe get rid of his headache.

Answer: Green

It tells us this at the end of chapter 8 when Ponyboy is talking to Cherry about Johnny's killing Bob. It makes you think, because in the beginning (on page one actually!) Ponyboy says he hates most people with green eyes. He wishsd his eyes were more grey, because they're greenish-grey.

Before the rumble, Darry was wearing his tight black t-shirt, which "showed every muscle of his chest, and even the flat, hard, muscles of his stomach."
