Grace Brisbane was one of the main characters for the first three books ("Shiver", "Linger", and "Forever"). When she was a child, the wolves, who were actually werewolves, pulled her from her tire swing and dragged her out into the forest. They would have killed her, but one of them became a human and saved her. Afterwards, she was sick and would have turned into a werewolf, but her father accidentally locked her in his car on the hottest day of the year while she was sleeping in the backseat. The incredible heat kept the wolf inside her at bay, but eventually, at the end of "Linger", she was forced to become a wolf or she would have died.

At the beginning of "Shiver" she met Sam, who was her favorite wolf and the one who had saved her so many years ago. They almost instantly fell in love. Despite their difficult situation, with Sam, and later Grace, becoming a wolf in the cold, they were desperate to stay together.

Grace was a very smart and practical girl. Because her parents were so busy with their own lives and staying out late, she mostly took care of herself.

Sam Roth was one of the main characters for the first three books and Grace's boyfriend. He worked at a bookstore and loved to read poetry, especially the work of German writer, Rainer Maria Rilke. After being infected with meningitis, he was able to remain a human.

When he first became a wolf after being bitten, his parents thought he was some sort of demon. They tried to kill him by cutting his wrists in a bathtub. However, he survived and his parents were arrested. He was then adopted by Beck, who was later revealed to be the one who made Sam a werewolf.

Isabel Culpeper was beautiful and mean. She lived in a large house near the forest where the wolves lived. Her mother was a doctor and her father was a lawyer. After her brother was thought to have been killed by the wolves, her father made it his mission to eradicate them. She became romantically involved with Cole. She had blond hair and blue eyes.

She was in all four books and was one of the main characters in the fourth, companion book, "Sinner", which took place in California instead of Minnesota like the others.

Cole St. Clair had been a drug addict and suicidal before Beck turned him into a wolf while Cole was touring in Canada. Along with being the lead singer of the band, he also played the keyboard. When he went missing, many people thought he had died. His band mate and friend, Victor, also became a wolf, but he was shot by Tom Culpeper. Cole had science knowledge and was able to create chemical concoctions that could trigger the shift to or from a wolf. He was erratic and often moody.

Cole was one of the main characters in "Sinner", which followed him to California, where he reunited with Isabel and starred in an online documentary show while he recorded a new album.

Geoffrey Beck owned the house that the wolves lived in while they were human. He was the adoptive father of Sam. After shifting for many years, he finally became a wolf permanently. He was killed during the wolf hunt near the end of "Forever".

Paul was the leader, or alpha, while they were wolves.

Olivia Marx had been friends with Grace and Rachel Vega for a long time. She would often go into the woods to photograph the wolves. She was turned into a wolf by Jack when she could not provide the information he wanted. At the beginning of "Forever", she was killed by Shelby while Olivia was briefly human. For a while, the police thought that Sam had killed her.

Shelby was a cruel and troubled girl who joined the Mercy Falls pack not long after Sam. Unlike Sam, she enjoyed being a wolf. She wanted Sam to take over as the leader of the pack and then have her become his mate. In "Shiver", she attacked Grace in her house and was almost killed by Sam, but she survived.

In "Forever", it is revealed that she has become the lowest ranking member of the pack and would often pick fights with the others. She was killed during the wolf hunt at the end of "Forever".

Jack Culpeper was Isabel's brother. He was a popular jock in high school. He was bitten after he teased the wolves with his BB gun. The town thought the wolves had killed him. He hated being a wolf and when Isabel came up with the idea of using meningitis to trigger a fever to stop the shifting, he allowed himself to be infected.

Unfortunately, it did not work with him and he died shortly after.

William Koenig was a young police officer who made appearances throughout the first three books. He was known to have a stoic and serious nature. When he realized that the wolves in Boundary Wood were not ordinary wolves, he offered Sam a large piece of land where they could be moved to.

Baby North was known to make the celebrities on her show have breakdowns. The name of her website was SharpT33th.com. She had a twin brother named T, who was a member of the show's film crew.
