3. Who attempted to usurp the throne of King Helm (Hammerhand) by forcing a marriage between his son and Helm's daughter?

Answer: Freca

Freca of Rohan was distantly descended from King Fréawine, and it was whispered that he was also part Dunlendish. He travelled in force to Edoras to force Helm to agree, but Helm smote Freca with his fist and Freca fell dead. From that Helm gained the surname Hammerhand. Later, Freca's son Wulf was able to usurp the throne temporarily, but it was retaken by Helm's nephew Fréaláf.
4. Name the son of the last Ruling Steward of Gondor, who became Prince of Ithilien:

Answer: Faramir

Son of Denethor and Findulas, Faramir was wounded in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields by the "black breath" and a Southron arrow. While resting in the Houses of Healing, he met Éowyn of Rohan, and eventually married her, strengthening the bond between Rohan and Gondor.
5. What was the nickname of Forlong, Lord of Lossarnach in the War of the Ring?

Answer: the Fat

Forlong was known for his impressive waist, and was referred to as Forlong the Fat. He arrived to the defence of Minas Tirith with 200 of his men, but was killed in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, hacked to pieces by axes of the orcs, unhorsed, defending the gates of Minas Tirith, last of all his men.
6. Which of the following dwarves was NOT slain in Moria?

Answer: Frór

Frór was slain in the Grey Mountains by a cold-drake (who was unnamed) along with his father, Dain I. Fundin was slain in Moria in the Battle of Azanulbizar (see question 2) and Frár and Flói were dwarves who went with Balin to retake Moria, and were killed there, one slain defending the bridge of Khazad-dûm, the other shot by an orc arrow.
7. Who was the Entwife of Fangorn (Treebeard)?

Answer: Fimbrethil

The shepherds of the trees - the Ents - had Entwives that lived in the Brown lands. These Brown lands were to the east of the Anduin river, and they were utterly ruined by Sauron. The Entwives moved away from there and were lost to the Ents. The three eldest Ents were Fangorn, Fladrif and Finglas, and Fimbrethil was Fangorn's mate.
8. Was Fingolfin of the Noldor slain by Morgoth in the Dagor Bragollach?

Answer: No

After the Dagor Bragollach, where Fingolfin was prevented from sending aid to the Noldor, led by the sons of Fëanor, Fingolfin in his wrath rode up to the gates of Angmar and challenged Morgoth to a duel. Morgoth accepted and a great battle ensued. Morgoth was wounded seven times, but eventually Fingolfin was beaten down thrice by Grond, Morgoth's hammer, and when the Noldor king stumbled backwards into a pit, Morgoth crushed his neck by stepping on it. Morgoth wanted to cast Fingolfin's body to the wolves, but Thorondor, lord of the Eagles, attacked Morgoth himself and rescued Fingolfin's broken body.
9. Which elf was one of the three ambassadors to Valinor, and led the Noldor to dwell there?

Answer: Finwë

He woke to the waters of Cuiviénen, and made the journey to Valinor along with Elwë and Ingwë. He was the King of the Noldor in Aman for about nine thousand years, but was slain by Melkor at Formenos, when Melkor stole the Silmarils from the vaults. His three sons, Fëanor, Fingolfin and Finarfin became mighty among the elves.
10. Who is the only son of Finwë not to leave Valinor, and rules there to this day?

Answer: Finarfin

He is King of the Noldor that remained in Valinor, and rules in Tirion. His five children chose to follow Fëanor to the Middle-Earth and of them, only Galadriel returned to Aman. He is the youngest of Finwë's sons.
11. Which of the following was not made by Fëanor of the Noldor?

Answer: Elven rings

Fëanor was the greatest of the Noldor and the eldest son of Finwë. He learned much from Aulë the Smith. He made the Tengwar, which were originally for Quenya script, but were used for most of the languages later on. He also wrought the Palantíri, the seeing-stones, of which seven came to the Middle Earth.

The Silmarils were Fëanor's greatest work. He captured the light of the Two Trees of Valinor (Telperion and Laurelin) into three jewels. Melkor destroyed the Two Trees and coveted the Silmarils, and finally managed to steal them, fleeing to Angmar. Fëanor, in his wrath, swore a terrible oath, and launched an assault against Melkor when the world was so young that the moon had not come up yet, and was known as the Battle Under Stars.

The elf-host was so valiant that they succeeded breaking Melkor's armies, but Fëanor was driven by rage and vengeance, and pursued Melkor to Angband, assailing the Fortress with only a small host, against terrible odds.

He was mortally wounded at the gates of Angband by Gothmog, lord of the Balrogs, but so great was Fëanor's spirit that his body was consumed by fire when he died in Mithrim.
12. Which lord of Rohan was slain by the Boar of Everholt?

Answer: Folca

Folca was a great hunter, but when his father, King Walda, was slain by orcs, he vowed never to hunt until Rohan was rid of orcs. His scourge took 39 long years, but he rid Rohan of all the orcs in its borders. When it was over, he went to hunt the Great Boar of Everholt, but in killing it, received mortal tusk-wounds, and died shortly after.
13. Which elf was King of Nargothrond, whose life was saved at the Dagor Bragollach by Barahir?

Answer: Finrod

Finrod was also known as Felagund by the dwarves which means "hewer of caves". This is because he carved the kingdom of Nargothrond from the rock of Taur-en-Faroth. He gave Barahir his ring for saving his life in battle at the Dagor Bragollach. Later, Beren used the ring as a token while he sought aid from Finrod in the Quest of the Silmaril. Finrod joined Beren, but was slain in dungeons of Sauron on Tol-in-Gaurhoth in the quest.
14. Scatha the Worm is one of only four dragons named in Tolkien's Middle-earth literature. Who slayed him?

Answer: Fram

Son of Frumgar, this man of the Éothéod was known for his killing of the cold-drake of the Grey Mountains, Scatha. The hoard of this dragon was not known, but it is mentioned that the horn that Merry Brandybuck received as a gift from King Éomer and Éowyn of Rohan was a part of this treasure. Fram was slain by dwarves, as the dwarves claimed the hoard of Scatha, but instead, Fram sent them a necklace of the dragon's teeth.
15. Name the ring-bearer who took Arwen Evenstar's place upon the last ship (of the Third Age) out of the Middle-earth:

Answer: Frodo

Frodo, considered the last of the ring-bearers (even though Sam was after him), was permitted to sail across the sea into Aman, in place of Arwen Evenstar, who chose to become mortal. Frodo succeeded in the greatest quest of the Third Age, he brought about the destruction of the One Ring in the cracks of Orodruin, and the downfall of Sauron.

He was wounded by blade, sting and tooth, and wasn't able to find peace and rest in the middle earth, and chose to move across the sea.
