1. (2001) While in prison Danny had a lot of time to plan. Now that he's out he wants to hit three casinos, all on the same night. The fact that all three are owned by the man who just happens to be dating Danny's ex-wife is pure coincidence...right? He assembles a team with the combined skills needed to pull off the heist that will make them all very wealthy, while making his wife see how undeserving of her affection her new boyfriend really is. Brad Pitt and Elliott Gould are part of that team.
2. (1998) Elliott Gould plays the Jewish boyfriend of the mother of a young Neo-Nazi, played by Edward Norton, who has been overcome by hatred since the death of his father. Spurred on by the machinations of an older father-figure, Derek's self-righteous hatred eventually builds to the point where he commits cold-blooded murder. While in prison he learns the error of his ways, and once released, he dedicates himself to pulling his younger brother out of the same destructive path, hopefully before it's too late.
3. (2002) Edward Norton and Robin Williams star in this black comedy about dueling, children's television show hosts. Dethroned in a payola scheme, Rainbow Randolph Smiley slowly descends into madness as he desperately tries to discredit his replacement and regain his old spot. Sheldon Mopes and his rhinoceros character are so squeaky clean that this is not easy to do. Sheldon's honesty is also proving to be a bit of a problem for other people, who are not pleased to find their source of income cut off. Before too long it seems like everyone has got it in for the rhino.
4. (2002) Robin Williams and Al Pacino star in this very bizarre film set in Alaska. Pacino and his partner are sent to assist in the investigation of the murder of a teenage girl. While pursuing the murderer in the fog, Pacino accidentally shoots and kills his partner. He blames the shooting on the escaping murderer, who has already wounded another one of the pursuing officers. Unfortunately the murderer saw what happened, and a strange game of cat and mouse ensues, made more bizarre by Pacino's inability to sleep in Alaska's white nights.
5. (1997) Small town lawyer, Kevin Lomax (played by Keanu Reeves), has developed such a good reputation that he finds himself recruited by one of the most prestigious law firms in New York City. Against his mother's advice, he packs up his wife and heads for the big city, where he soon finds that all is not the way he was led to believe. In fact his new boss turns out to be none other than Lucifer himself (played to sardonic perfection by Al Pacino). Unfortunately, that nasty little tidbit isn't the only surprise that Lucifer has in store for him.
6. (2003) Keanu Reeves plays Dr. Julian Mercer, a doctor who provides care to heart-attack patient Harry Sanborn, played by Jack Nicholson. Sanborn is an older man who has always managed to escort beautiful women, who are much younger than himself. In fact his heart attack occurs in the summer home of playwright Erica Berry, while he is there for a weekend visit with her daughter. Forced to convalesce in her home, he's surprised to find himself finally falling for a woman who's close to his own age. However she is also being courted by the much younger doctor.
7. (1997) Jack Nicholson is brilliant as an obsessive compulsive author who finds himself falling in love with the only waitress who has ever been able to serve him to his satisfaction. The experience puts Nicholson back in touch with a part of his humanity that he'd lost, and helps him find love.
8. (2002) Greg Kinnear and Mel Gibson star in this very disturbing film about the first major American engagement in the Vietnamese War. The four men develop a very strong bond, which lasts until the youngest one brings his fiancée home with him from college. The other brothers find themselves attracted to her, and she to them, creating a strange brand of tension. WWI rears its ugly head, and the brothers go off to fight, against their father's wishes. Life gets a whole lot more complicated when only two of them return alive.
