Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (2003) Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman are mutants with very unusual powers that they use to help make the world a better place. Unfortunately not everyone can accept them, and General Stryker positively hates them. He has designed a plan to turn public opinion against them, by manipulating an attack on the president. Meanwhile, he's using Professor Xavier to unwittingly wipe out all mutants around the world.
2. (2001) Hugh Jackman plays a gentleman from the 1870s, who slips through a time porthole while pursuing a visitor to his time from the 21st century. Meg Ryan plays the 21st century woman who teaches him how to blend in, until he can find a way back to his own time. Of course she ends up falling in love with him in the interim.
3. (1993) On Christmas Eve Annie (played by Meg Ryan) hears Sam (played by Tom Hanks) talking on a radio talk show about the pain of losing his wife. She becomes obsessed by this stranger who lives miles away (as do thousands of other women). She becomes determined to find out whether this man really is the man that she's supposed to spend the rest of her life with, breaking up with her fiance in the process.
4. (1999) Tom Hanks plays Paul Edgecomb, the man in charge of the death row wing of a 1930s prison. Michael Clarke Duncan plays John Coffey, a simple man with an amazing gift who has been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to die. Edgecomb has to decide how he's going to perform his duties, knowing that Coffey is innocent, and knowing that his gift is one that's worth preserving.
5. (2001) Michael Clarke Duncan is Colonel Attar, right hand to the brutal General Thade. Mark Wahlberg is the unsuspecting Captain Leo Davidson, an astronaut who has slipped through a space wormhole, and landed on the planet where Thade lives. Unfortunately the planet is less than welcoming to humans, where they are nothing more than slaves to the ruling classes.
6. (2000) Mark Wahlberg plays Bobby Shatford, crew member on the sword fishing boat, the Andrea Gail. George Clooney plays the boat's captain, Billy Tyne. Going out for one more run, after a particularly bad season, the Andrea Gail gets caught in what has been referred to as the storm of the century, in this movie based on a true story.
7. (2003) George Clooney plays Miles Massey, a very successful divorce lawyer who has written the unbeatable prenuptial agreement. Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Marilyn Rexroth, a woman who has failed to receive the divorce settlement that she was after, because of Massey's efforts in representing her husband. She develops a plan to get even as well as rich, but doesn't count on falling in love along the way.
8. (2001) Catherine Zeta-Jones stars in this very funny movie about an ex-husband and wife acting team, who must get together for a weekend to promote the last film that they made together, despite the tensions that exist between them. 9. (2001) Billy Crystal and John Goodman lend their voices to this animated film, about a group of creatures that power their cities by harnessing the power from the screams of children. Of course they're terrified of being contaminated by those children. It's a relief for all (well for most) when they find that there's much more power in a laugh than in a scream.
10. (1994) Fred (played by John Goodman) thinks that he's finally hit the big time when he's chosen as the new associate vice-president. It takes him a while to realize that he's really being set up to take the fall for an embezzlement scheme that's being run by cunning Cliff Vandercave and his lovely assistant Sharon Stone (played by Halle Berry). It's a good things that Barney's around to help him figure a way out.
