Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the worst movies ever made starred the much loved John Travolta. It is a futuristic sci-fi movie which revolves around a small group of humans trying to regain control of the planet Earth from an alien race. Can you name the movie?

Answer: Battlefield Earth

"Battlefield Earth" was a disappointment from beginning to end. While John Travolta is one my favorite actors, the movie was highly criticized in almost every aspect. The film received 8 Golden Raspberry Awards, and in 2010 won the title of Worst Picture of the Decade.
2. Name the comedy which stars Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty as a singing duo who travel to Morocco and unwittingly end up in a standoff in a plot to de-throne the Emir of a small country.

Answer: Ishtar

Upon receiving an offer to perform as lounge singers in a Moroccan hotel, Lyle and Chuck accidentally wind up a cold war standoff. The movie was supposed to be a comedy, however, barely eked out any laughs. "Ishtar" received 3 Golden Raspberry Awards and was named by critics Siskel and Ebert, as the worst film of 1987.
3. Which movie, starring Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue, was centered on the story of a raging alcoholic and his choice to give up on life?

Answer: Leaving Las Vegas

"Leaving Las Vegas" was a graphic depiction of the life of an alcoholic and his conscious choice to succumb to his disease. While the acting of Cage and Shue is adept, the movie itself was a dismal display of hopelessness and despair. If you're looking for satisfaction at the resolution of a movie, this is not the choice for you.
4. Can you name the movie in which a water park is terrorized by a great white shark, when it enters a lagoon, in search of its baby, and begins to attack employees and park goers.

Answer: Jaws 3-D

"Jaws 3-D" was the second follow up to "Jaws". While it featured a brilliant cast including Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong and Louis Gossett Jr., it still failed to miss the mark. The plot centers around the surviving sons of Chief Brody from the original "Jaws", it had the makings of a promising story, however, it was largely ineffective and received many negative reviews.
5. Name the movie about a farmer and his daughter, along with painters they have hired to paint their farmhouse, encountering a small killer who has been hiding in the basement for 10 years.

Answer: Leprechaun

"Leprechaun" is a ridiculous movie about a family who is stalked by a Leprechaun on a killing spree, looking for his gold. Between the scenes of the Leprechaun chasing the victims on his tricycle and the ones where he impersonates an old man in a nursing home, it is impossible not to regret the 92 minutes you just lost.
6. Name the movie starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfreid, in which a high school cheerleader becomes possessed by a demon, leaving her a bloodthirsty succubus. The cheerleader's best friend struggles to stop the succubus from a bloody murder spree.

Answer: Jennifer's Body

While the premise of "Jennifer's Body" was supposed to be female empowerment, the over-the-top gore factor was too disturbing. Critics gave negative reviews upon the release of the movie, however, since the "Me Too Movement" in 2018, the movie has become a cult film.
7. Another John Travolta film makes the list with a sequel to the movie that put Travolta on the map. It focuses on the life of disco king, Tony Manero when he tries to make it as a professional dancer. Can you name the movie?

Answer: Staying Alive

"Staying Alive" is the sequel to "Saturday Night Fever". The movie tells the story of Tony Manero's quest to become a professional dancer. The movie was a lackluster performance which ultimately scored 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.
8. Name the '80's film which is the story of an alien duck who finds himself suddenly catapulted to Earth, and his quest to return to his home in Duckworld. The duck befriends a woman who he saves from an attack, and she tries to return the favor by helping him to get back home.

Answer: Howard The Duck

"Howard the Duck" was supposed to be a superhero movie. The premise was so unbelievable that the film received 7 nominations for Razzie Awards, winning 4 of them. The only thing more unbelievable than the plot, was the fact that veteran stars like Lea Thompson and Tim Robbins joined on to the project.
9. Name the movie, starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal, which was based on a super-storm so severe that the world almost entered into a new ice age. Quaid is a meteorologist who predicts the storm and then goes on a quest to save as many people as possible from the impending destruction. His family are at opposite ends of the coast, making the struggle even more difficult for him.

Answer: The Day After Tomorrow

This movie, while featuring an excellent cast, had the potential to be an epic. While the cinematography and the acting were exceptional, the film was ruined by the unrealistic sub themes. One example is where, during the worst of the storm, Quaid actually walks from Philadelphia to New York City to save his son.

The random pack of wolves running through the streets of New York don't help matters either.
10. This movie is the 4th installment to the National Lampoon's series of movies following the trials and tribulations of the Griswold family. Clark receives a large bonus check at work and decides to take the family on a trip where he and Ellen will renew their marriage vows. The family have their doubts when the learn of the location of this latest trip. Can you name it?

Answer: Vegas Vacation

While the "Vacation" movies were some of my favorites, the Griswolds should have quit while they were ahead. Although the previous movies in the series were hilarious and some of my favorites, this one fails to deliver. The movie was exceptionally corny and struggled to maintain the level of comedy that we are used to. The film ended up with a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
