Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. Joe with the kung-fu grip! And my wife ain't gonna make love to me if I got no money!' So they're panicking right now, they're screaming 'SELL! SELL!' to get out before the price keeps dropping. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What 1980s comedy starring George Carlin contained the quote: "This is a dude who, 700 years ago, totally ravaged China, and who, we were told, two hours ago, totally ravaged Oshman's Sporting Goods."?

Answer: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Bill and Ted gave this introduction for Genghis Khan during their oral report for History in the 1980s comedy "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". After their report (which also included other historical figures such as Socrates and Lincoln) concluded, they received applause from the audience and a passing grade in History. Thus they were able to keep their band together which, improbably enough, formed the basis of future society.
2. What 1980s comedy starring Chevy Chase contained the quote: "And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."?

Answer: Caddyshack

Bill Murray's character, Carl Spackler, told this story while menacing a caddy with a pitchfork in the 1980 golf classic "Caddyshack". While the caddy was able to get away shortly thereafter, Carl's antics continued throughout the movie, eventually leading to its explosive conclusion.
3. What 1980s comedy starring Tim Matheson contained the quote: "Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout 10 quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State."?

Answer: Fletch

In "Fletch", newspaper reporter Fletch (Chevy Chase), sporting a nice set of novelty teeth, said this while impersonating an airplane mechanic, trying to get details on where Alan Stanwyk (Matheson) flew to that used up so much fuel. This important piece of information helped Fletch uncover Alan's drug business and led to a final showdown between Fletch, Alan, and the corrupt chief of police.
4. In what 1980s comedy did Val Kilmer's character say, "If you think that by threatening me you can get me to do what you want... Well, that's where you're right. But - and I am only saying that because I care - there's a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing."?

Answer: Real Genius

In "Real Genius", Chris Knight (Kilmer) said this to his professor after being threatened with being flunked out of school if he did not help his roommate, Mitch, finish the laser project. Chris and Mitch then collaborated to complete the laser. However, once Chris and Mitch found the laser was being used in a new satellite weapon, they got revenge by reprogramming the weapon to fill the professor's house full of popcorn.
5. What 1980s movie, starring Billy Crystal in a minor role, contained the quote: "But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me."?

Answer: The Princess Bride

In the movie "The Princess Bride", this line of truly dizzying intellect was uttered by Vizzini (Wallace Sean) right before he lost the battle of wits (and keeled over from Iocane poisoning) to the Masked Man. The Masked Man, who we then found to be Princess Buttercup's true love, Wesley, then fled with the princess.

Although Wesley was caught and drained of life shortly thereafter, he was brought back to life by Miracle Max (Billy Crystal).
6. What 1980s military comedy featured the quote: "Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P."?

Answer: Good Morning Vietnam

The hilarious Airman/DJ Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) ran afoul of his superiors with wisecracks like this in "Good Morning Vietnam". After Cronauer asked this, his commanding officer stormed out of the room and then his fellow DJs erupted with laughter.

Although Cronauer's on-air antics rankled his immediate supervisors, his popularity with listeners kept him on the air until a couple of serious security breaches caused him to be sent home for good.
7. Which 1980s comedy starring John Candy featured the line: "So the combination is... one, two, three, four, five? That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! The kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!"?

Answer: Space Balls

In Mel Brooks' "Space Balls" (a spoof of "Star Wars"), "12345" was the combination of the Planet Druidia airlock. Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) uttered this quote in disbelief when he found out the combination. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that this was also the combination of the luggage of the Space Ball president (Mel Brooks).

John Candy played Barf, a mog (half man, half dig) and sidekick of the hero, Lone Starr (Bill Pullman).
8. What 1980s Eddie Murphy movie featured the line, "Okay, pork belly prices have been dropping all morning, which means that everybody is waiting for it to hit rock bottom, so they can buy low. Which means that the people who own the pork belly contracts are saying, 'Hey, we're losing all our damn money, and Christmas is around the corner, and I ain't gonna have no money to buy my son the G.I. Joe with the kung-fu grip! And my wife ain't gonna make love to me if I got no money!' So they're panicking right now, they're screaming 'SELL! SELL!' to get out before the price keeps dropping. They're panicking out there right now, I can feel it."?

Answer: Trading Places

In "Trading Places", street huckster turned investment banker Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) used this logic to convince the Duke brothers to wait to buy pork bellies until the price dropped a bit lower. It was uncanny how well Billy Ray's street hustler instincts translated to the world of investment banking.

It is interesting to note that orange juice futures, the securities traded in the climax of the film, are an actually traded commodity in finance. Furthermore, "Trading Places" was referenced in April 2013 in connection to orange juice futures in "The Wall Street Journal".
9. What 1980s Judge Reinhold movie featured the line: "Disturbing the peace? I got thrown out of a window! What's the charge for getting pushed out of a moving car, huh? Jaywalking?"?

Answer: Beverly Hills Cop

In "Beverly Hills Cop", Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) lodged this complaint after his arrest in Beverly Hills. Axel did not end up being charged with a crime as he assured the Beverly Hills police that he was on vacation (even though he was instead investigating his friend's murder).

After several other run-ins with the Beverly Hills police (including an incident with a banana in the police car tailpipe), Axel ended up teaming up with police detective Billy Rosewood (Reinhold). In the end, they were able to track down Axel's friend's killer.
10. What 1980s Daryl Hannah movie featured the line: "I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream - and I hope you don't find this too crazy - is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."?

Answer: Roxanne

In "Roxanne", Charlie Bales (Steve Martin), chief of the small town's fire department, uttered this line out of frustration with his inept department. Fortunately, he was eventually able to get the department into shape, so that they could successfully fight a real fire near the end of the movie.

At the end of the film, Charlie successfully wooed Roxanne (Hannah). The film was a modern day version of the classic play "Cyrano de Bergerac".
