Question 2 of 10
2. A few films have addressed the possibility of humans being unable to sustain life on Earth. In this futuristic film our sun is burning out and we are shown how we might address this. In this film a good part of the movie deals with this fascinating topic and our response to it. The later part of the film, sadly, becomes something closer to "Friday the 13th" or "Halloween" (in space). Can you name this often overlooked film? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Cyberdyne Systems plays a key part in this movie series. (Knowing this is part of a series that has included multiple sequels and even a television spin-off should be a huge clue towards the answer for this question.) Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. In which futuristic movie series is a corporation named OCP a prime part of the story? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This multiple award winning film introduces us to a future where a mega corporation is helping to save the world and humanity that they also had helped to destroy. Telling you the corporation's logo and initials feature the letters B and L almost makes this question too easy. Another clue would be the year the film was released: 2008. Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Director Luc Besson has done a few futuristic movies, with one very much a cult classic. The film that answers this question was released in 2017 but the story dates back to the 1960s and this film is NOT the cult classic you may first think of. What film, directed by Besson, was released in 2017 to a poor box office reception? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. This movie provide a film version of a futuristic story that introduces us to the very important three laws. That should be all the clue you need to pick the right film from the choices listed here. If you answer too quickly, you may think of the law enforcer who follows directives instead of finding the right answer here. Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This post-apocalyptic movie centers around a very important object. Denzel Washington starred in this film that takes his character on a dangerous journey to fulfill his mission in life. Can you name the movie? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. Some films offer morals in their stories. In this futuristic film from some years gone by a now famous actor was but a young lad. The moral for the story in this one is very much a 'be careful what you wish for' as you might get it only to find out it wasn't at all what you had hoped for. The story also involves a companion for the young lad. Can you identify this movie that was made in the mid-1970s, based on a novella that was released in 1969? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What futuristic movie includes characters being hugely entertained by jingles from past advertising campaigns?

Answer: Demolition Man

In the film "Demolition Man", police officer John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) is put into suspended animation (deep freeze!) to serve out a sentence imposed on him for a charge of (basically) police brutality. He is brought back to life in a future that seems to be utopian, but where unfortunately a past nemesis is causing problems. In that future some of the entertainment that is enjoyed by the citizenry comes back to listening to old advertising jingles. This somewhat shocks Spartan as he gets used to his new environment, though that shock is nothing compared to learning about the winner of the franchise wars.
"Judge Dredd" was another futuristic film starring Stallone. It did not include jingles as a form of entertainment.
"Mad Max" and "Freejack" are also futuristic films, but again, they don't include jingles as a form of entertainment.

Answer: Sunshine

"Lost in Space" is perhaps closest to the correct answer without being the correct answer here, though "Interstellar" is a film that also revolves around finding a new home as the Earth has basically been exhausted as a habitat for humans.
"Silent Running" is a classic film that also relates to the future of humanity. It includes a great performance by star Bruce Dern.
"Sunshine" is the answer to this question. It is a film by Danny Boyle. The first portion of the film tells us about the sun burning out and how a mission to re-ignite the sun has been undertaken as a last chance to save humanity. Unfortunately the first attempt results in a loss of communication with the crew and ship from that effort. A second crew and ship are dispatched to try again, knowing that if that crew fails, the Earth is doomed. That part of the story eventually leads us to an ending that, in the opinion of the author of this quiz question, goes off the rails. The last act (give or take) of this movie becomes much more like "Friday the 13th" or "Halloween" or similar movies.
3. Cyberdyne Systems plays a key part in this movie series. (Knowing this is part of a series that has included multiple sequels and even a television spin-off should be a huge clue towards the answer for this question.)

Answer: The Terminator

Cyberdyne Systems is the company that developed the computer technology that eventually leads to the deployment of Skynet and the creation of the Terminators. We're told at various points in the "Terminator" movie series that the Terminator (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) and future models (including versions played by Robert Patrick and another played by Kristanna Loken) were created by Cyberdyne Systems.

In fact, in the "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" film the heroine of the story (played by Linda Hamilton) and her son (the savior of the future, a young John Connor, played in this film by Edward Furlong) team up with a Terminator that was reprogrammed by a future version of John Connor to go back in time and save the younger Connor and his mother. That team attempts to stop Cyberdyne Systems from their work and eventually they pair with the lead developer for Cyberdyne Systems who ironically enough has used technology that was left behind from the fight against the original Terminator back in the first "Terminator" movie. The other films that are listed as potential answers here all involve robots, though the "Short Circuit" movie was not futuristic. "I, Robot" and "Bicentennial Man" were standalone films and not part of a series. "Short Circuit" was part of a series of films as there was a sequel to the first film.
4. In which futuristic movie series is a corporation named OCP a prime part of the story?

Answer: Robocop

OCP was the corporation that brought us Robocop. In the "Robocop" series, OCP works on taking over (privatizing) the city of Detroit, including providing police services. Robocop is their newest creation, along with a less successful robotic creation that is more suited to military usage (if it can be made dependable). Robocop pairs the human remains of a former police officer with robotic components that utilize both the brain of the human and the computer components and programming that make him the ultimate police officer.
The other responses don't include OCP, though they may involve other corporations as prime parts of their stories.
"Robocop" was originally released in 1987. Because of its success, it was followed by a sequel that was also fairly successful. Those two films starred Peter Weller as Robocop. Weller was reportedly 'unavailable' (due to scheduling conflicts) to play the role again in the third film in the original series. Some may speculate that he was purposefully unavailable to avoid being the character again in a story that wasn't as robust and deserved of being filmed as the first two films were.
The franchise was rebooted in 2014 to mixed financial results and somewhat muted response from potential fans who may have felt the series wasn't yet in need of being rebooted.
5. This multiple award winning film introduces us to a future where a mega corporation is helping to save the world and humanity that they also had helped to destroy. Telling you the corporation's logo and initials feature the letters B and L almost makes this question too easy. Another clue would be the year the film was released: 2008.

Answer: WALL-E

The corporation name was 'Buy n Large' (BnL), seemingly modeled after the likes of the A-Z company or perhaps the company that was founded by Sam Walton. When we are introduced to the story we see advertisements from BnL that talk about 'Operation Clean-up'. Operation Clean-up was an effort to clean up the Earth and return it to a hospitable form. The name WALL-E was reportedly an acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class. In the film, the main character, WALL-E, is the last functioning robot left on Earth, though there originally were other similar robots that were left behind as part of Operation Clean-up. All of those robots were supposed to have been cleaning the world of the mess that had been left behind before mankind left on the luxurious space cruisers that would temporarily house humanity.
The other films may involve corporations, but if they do, they don't include the letters B or L in the corporation names or logos.
Bonus info: "Step Brothers" does include a company that is created by the step brothers: 'Prestige World Wide'. You may want to remember that info for future quizzes.
6. Director Luc Besson has done a few futuristic movies, with one very much a cult classic. The film that answers this question was released in 2017 but the story dates back to the 1960s and this film is NOT the cult classic you may first think of. What film, directed by Besson, was released in 2017 to a poor box office reception?

Answer: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

The cult classic film in the clue is one of the available answers here: "The Fifth Element". Besson directed, independently, the film "Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets" which was released to disappointing box office results in 2017. That film was based on a series of books or graphic novels dating back to 1967.
If you were a fan of "Fifth Element" you would likely enjoy "Valerian" though it is a different story and not necessarily in the same universe/environment. It will be interesting to see if "Valerian" eventually gains the cult status that "Fifth Element" has.
7. This movie provide a film version of a futuristic story that introduces us to the very important three laws. That should be all the clue you need to pick the right film from the choices listed here. If you answer too quickly, you may think of the law enforcer who follows directives instead of finding the right answer here.

Answer: I, Robot

The three laws in question would be these: "1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law."
Those laws, or others like them, are being used to help guide and advance our society in the area of artificial intelligence.
The three laws come from author Isaac Asimov, and they are included in the story for "I, Robot".
The other films that are listed are also futuristic and may involve laws ("Blade Runner") or artificial intelligence ("A.I.") or robotics ("Robocop"). "Robocop" used the term directives rather than laws for the guidance that Robocop had to follow. One of the directives that restricted his behavior was a plot point late in the original story.
8. This post-apocalyptic movie centers around a very important object. Denzel Washington starred in this film that takes his character on a dangerous journey to fulfill his mission in life. Can you name the movie?

Answer: The Book of Eli

None of the wrong answers were post-apocalyptic movies which should making finding the right answer here fairly easy.
"The Book of Eli" involves a character who is travelling across country carrying a book that is being sought by a maniacal character who believes the book to be a weapon. Viewers see Washington's character defending not just himself and the book, but townspeople that were being tormented by the maniacal character and his goons or others that were taking advantage of the somewhat lawless future existence.
The movie features a couple of very interesting twists, saying more might ruin your opportunity to be entertained by a very good movie (if you've not seen it).

Answer: A Boy and His Dog

"A Boy and His Dog" features a young Don Johnson, who later starred in TV's "Miami Vice" and "Nash Bridges" (and also appeared in several other movies along the way) in a post-apocalyptic version of the Earth with miles of desolate territory to cross while seeking food, water, and especially females. The story was originally by the great sci-fi author Harlan Ellison, originally titled "Vic and Blood". In the story Johnson's character communicates telepathically with his dog companion while on their journey.
Johnson's character Vic thinks he may have found a great situation for himself when he encounters a female that takes him to an underground world, potentially for a physical relationship. Vic is happy that it seems that there are multiple females he may be able to have relations with, but things aren't what they appear. It turns out that the relationships are not going to be nearly as physical as thought and instead Vic is apparently destined to be an unwilling donor for his part of the procreation process, basically strapped down and hooked to a milking device for the rest of his days.
"Logan's Run" is a futuristic film from the 1970s that involves a young man that must go on the run before his time is up and he must do as all older individuals do - have his life ended in order to keep what is left of the world from being over crowded. Logan pairs with a young lady who had been planning her escape from the team of people that Logan originally worked for - the Sandmen. The Sandmen's job is to capture runners and make them meet their destiny.
"The Man Who Fell to Earth" is a classic sci-fi film featuring David Bowie as an alien who crashed on Earth while trying to find a way to get water back to his home world.
"Phantasm" is a horror story from the late 1970s where young people are somewhat key to the story (as they determine that things aren't what they appear).
10. In 2010 a film was released that gives us a view of future where body parts can easily be replaced - if you have enough money to pay for those parts. If you can't afford it, don't worry, payment plans are available. Can you name this film?

Answer: Repo Men

"Repo Men" features a world where body parts can easily be replaced if needed, as long as you can pay for them. Those who can't pay immediately can use payment plans if necessary but don't fall behind in your payments - if you do the parts are subject to repossession by the likes of Jude Law and his friend and co-worker Forest Whitaker.
