Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is Sir Ulrich from?

Answer: Gelderland

'I am Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein, of Gelderland.'
2. What does Sir Ulrich (not William) call his two squires?

Answer: Delves and Falhurst

While their real names are Roland and Watt, Sir Ulrich calls them Delves and Falhurst. 'These are my squires: Delves of Dodgington, and Falhurst of Crew.'
3. What was Chaucer's answer to the question, 'Were you robbed?'?

Answer: "Yes, and at the same time, a huge resounding no."

Always a writer, Chaucer takes this chance to be confusing, and avoid the question.
4. When Watt first threatens Chaucer, which of these is NOT something he says?

Answer: "You will pray for a quick death."

5. After William's first win in the sword arena, what is the first thing Chaucer calls him?

Answer: The Rock

The extras in this film didn't speak very much English, and so didn't know when to cheer. If you watch during Chaucer's speech, you will see two women behind him throw their hands up as if to cheer before he's done speaking.
6. According to William, how did the nobles become noble?

Answer: They took it, at the tip of a sword.

William decides to do the same thing with a lance.
7. What is William's response to this line: 'There is your Venus.'?

Answer: 'Oh, and how I hate her.'

This comes after Jocelyn tells him he must lose, then tells him he must win if he really loves her.
8. In the church scene, why does Jocelyn say she laughs?

Answer: To keep from weeping.

'I only laugh just to keep from weeping.'
9. Finish the line: 'You have been weighed. You have been measured. And you have been _____________'?

Answer: found wanting

This line is repeated several times throughout the movie.
10. What must be provided at the tournament in Rouen before you're allowed to compete?

Answer: Patents of Nobility

William's patents were craftily forged by Chaucer.
11. When Chaucer mocks William about not being Sir Ulrich, he says, 'I'm _______________, pleased to meet you. No, I'm ______________, no ________________.' What three names does he say?

Answer: Richard the Lionheart, Charlemagne, St. John the Baptist

12. What is the last word in the movie?

Answer: 'yours.'

Chaucer has the distinct honor of saying the last line of the film. 'All human activity lies within the artist's scope. Maybe not yours.' However, there is a short scene after the credits, which is very funny, and contains only one line: 'You're round.' I didn't think that was part of the movie, so didn't count it.
13. What is the first line of the movie?

Answer: 'Should we help him?'

While all of these lines are said at the beginning of the film, 'Should we help him' was the first one uttered, by William.
14. What is Jocelyn's first line?

Answer: 'Ah, to speak.'

Jocelyn's first line is 'Ah, to speak.' This is after William's line 'Would you speak to me.'
15. What is William's first response to Jocelyn's question: 'Would you care if I were ugly'?

Answer: 'Yes!'

William, not thinking first, replies with 'Yes!' then changes it to 'No!'
16. Who is the first combatant Sir Ulrich will meet at the tournament in Rouen?

Answer: Roger Lord Mortimer

This is told by the judges, upon receiving the patents.
17. At the tournament at Rouen, what is the vendor selling?

Answer: Cat's Meat and Hot Wine

It is actually Cat's meat, and not Yak's meat. On the DVD commentary, writer/director Brian Helgelund talks about the person "portraying the Cat's meat vendor not being credited because he was already being credited as a Key Grip." He said "Cat's Meat". Also, if you turn close captioning on, it says Cat's Meat.
18. Which phrase does Chaucer NOT say while introducing Sir Ulrich?

Answer: 'The King of Kings'

19. How long has Roland been away from England?

Answer: 5 years

'Five. Five long years.'
20. What is the last song we hear (before the credits roll)?

Answer: You Shook Me All Night Long

'We Are the Champions' can be heard during the credits. 'We Will Rock You' is heard at the beginning of the film, and 'Foxy Lady' is never played.
21. Who sings the last song we hear (before the credits roll)?

Answer: AC DC

22. What is the next line: 'Are you a woman or a blacksmith'?

Answer: "Sometimes I'm both."

23. According to Adhemar, why do jousters lift their heads before the impact of the lances?

Answer: So the splinters won't penetrate their visors

Sir Ulrich doesn't do this. He keeps his eyes on the target.
24. What is William's response to this line: 'You knowingly endanger the life of a member of the royal family.'?

Answer: He knowingly endangers himself

This dialogue is about Sir Thomas Colville, AKA Prince Edward.
25. What color is Sir Ulrich's tunic at the dance?

Answer: Green

Roland fashions the tunic out of a tent, which happened to be green.
