Edward Scissorhands was created by an ageing inventor who lived in a huge, dark house on a hill. Unfortunately, the inventor died before Edward was complete and he was left with sharp blades instead of hands. He was taken in by a suburban family, where he sculpted the neighbour's topiaries, groomed their dogs, and styled their hair.

Captain Jack strutted around the Caribbean with a drunken swagger and, despite his drunkeness, he was a dab hand with a sword. His special compass pointed to whatever the owner wanted most in the world. In "Curse of the Black Pearl", he used it to find his beloved ship, which had been claimed by the crew in a mutiny.

Victor was a model in the stop-motion film, "Corpse Bride". He lived in a grim 19th century town where he was due to marry Victoria in a wedding that had been arranged by their parents. During the rehearsal, Victor made numerous mistakes, so he went into the woods to practise his vows.

While rehearsing what he must say and do, he accidentally married the corpse of a bride who had been killed by her fiance.

Willy Wonka's father was a dentist. As a child, Willy was forced to wear a huge set of braces and wasn't allowed to eat sweets. One day, he tried some candy in secret, and ran away to become a confectioner. He found immense global success and his products were sold across the world.

Freddy Krueger was a child killer who escaped punishment on a technicality. A group of parents formed a mob and burned Krueger alive while he was trapped in a room. Glen Lantz's dad was one of those people. Krueger's spirit began to hanut teenagers in their dreams. If he killed them in their dream, then they would die in reality, which is what happened to Glen. Glen Lantz was Johnny Depp's first film role.

Answer: Rango ("Rango" 2011)

Rango ended up in the desert when his terranium accidentally fell from his owner's car. The chameleon met a number of wild desert animals, including an iguana called Beans. Through a series of events, Rango became the sheriff of a town of animals called Dirt. He uncovered the corrupt dealings of the town mayor and saved Dirt from drought.

Answer: Sweeney Todd ("Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" 2007)

'Sweeney Todd' was the alias of Benjamin Barker, a man who had been wrongly convicted of a crime by a corrupt judge. When he returned to London many years later, he reopened his barbershop using his new name. Below his shop, Mrs Lovett had a bakery selling the worst pies in town. Todd began to kill his customers and Mrs Lovett would turn the meat into pies.

Tarrant Hightopp, also know as the Mad Hatter, had an eccentric approach to fashion with an eccentric personality to match. He flitted between thoughts and emotions, and his body followed along. His hair, skin colour, clothes, and accent would change depending on his mood. When he was angry, for example, he'd adopt a strong Glaswegian accent.

Answer: John Dillinger ("Public Enemies" 2009)

"Public Enemies" told the story of real-life infamous gangster John Dillinger in his final years leading up to his death in 1934. During the film, he took part in bank heists and fell in love with Billie Frechette. Johnny Depp played Dillinger, who was famous across America in the 1930s.

He has been viewed by some as an anti-hero of the era. When he died in Chicago, people (in real life) tried to get 'souvenirs' of his death by soaking up his blood with their handkerchiefs and collecting objects from the scene.

Answer: Gellert Grindelwald ("Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" 2016)

Grindelwald was a dark wizard in the "Harry Potter" series. Throughout most of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", he was disguised as the Auror Percival Graves, played by Colin Farrell. At the end of the film, his true likeness was revealed, played by Johnny Depp. He returned to play Grindlewald in the sequel, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald", in 2018.
