Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this extended version, when is the opening scene taking place?

Answer: October 10, 1904

If you did not see the extended version, this date is also mentioned later in the movie, when the crew is inside the ancient pyramid. At the point in which they find the predator arsenal, Sebastian says this date aloud and then uses it to unlock the sarcophagus.
2. The opening scene takes place in Antarctica. This specific location hides a secret pyramid 2000 feet below. The name of this whaling station is seen clearly in the opening shots, but can also be seen a little less clearly in the theatrical release version. Which long abandoned whaling station does Weyland take his group to?

Answer: Razorback Point

Antarctic whaling really took off in the late 1800s. A Norwegian man named Sven Foyn invented an exploding harpoon and a method to inflate the dead animal and prevent its sinking. Whale oil, made from blubber, was used to make cosmetics and oil machines. In 1966 the International Whaling Commission was formed to prevent over fishing of whales, but at this point the whales had been compromised greatly. Estimates showed that almost 1.3 million whale deaths occurred in the height of whaling. Information from:(http://www.ael.msu.edu/antarctica/tour/pages/whaling.htm).

A razorback is commonly known as a mongrel hog, but baleen whales are also called razorbacks.
3. A large array of radio antennas are seen in the movie, just before the unidentified heat signature is detected in Antarctica. Where was this array?

Answer: Nebraska

The so named VLA (Very Large Array) is located in New Mexico and seen in the movie "Contact" with Jodi Foster. Weyland's fictional array is located in Silver Leaf, Nebraska.
4. Sebastian discovered a Pepsi-Cola cap artifact in Teotihuacan, Mexico.

Answer: True

Teotihuacan is known as the City of the Gods. There are pyramids and archeology digs found there. Sebastian and Thomas thought they were exploring a burial chamber, but when Sebastian pulled out an old Pepsi bottle cap he knew he was in the wrong place! If anything had been there, the cap proves someone else beat him to it. You see Sebastian wearing the bottle cap around his neck later in the movie.
5. Which ice shelf did the gang cross to get to their hidden pyramid?

Answer: Ross

The Ross Ice Shelf is also known as the Great Ice Barrier. The Larson Ice Shelf began coming apart in January of 2002. Before that event, it was almost 700 feet thick. It was believed that before the collapse, the Larson had existed for around 400 years. Info: http://www.nsidc.org/iceshelves/larsenb2002/index.html.

Alexa, Graeme and Sebastian also witness an aurora borealis as they cross.
6. What is the name of the ice breaker that Alexa and Graeme arrived at by helicopter?

Answer: Piper Maru

The Piper Maru is a huge ship designed to crunch right through an ice shelf. Of course, there are places way too thick for that to be possible. Mar A Lago is Donald Trump's club in Palm Beach, Florida.
7. What set off the Alien queen's defrosting?

Answer: Quinn stepping on a pressure stone

The stone was a pressure switch. It activated the queen's rise and thaw from her prison below the pyramid. The Predators orbiting the Earth did watch the events unfold, but did not activate the queen's ascent.
8. Inside the Sacrificial Chamber, which crew member is the first to experience a chest bursting Alien baby?

Answer: Adele

When they first explored the chamber, Thomas tells everyone that it was not uncommon for hearts of the sacrificed to be taken. Adele corrected Thomas: "That's nice. But that's not where your heart is. Besides it looks like the bones were bent straight out. Something broke out of this body."
9. How many sacrificial altars were located in the Sacrificial Chamber?

Answer: 7

Each altar had a transport tube located at the head end so that the Alien egg case could travel up and into the chamber. This allowed the face huggers to emerge and implant the embryos into their willing human hosts. On this occasion, there were no willing sacrificees, but that did not stop the battle from beginning.
10. Which is NOT one of Alexa's three simple rules for survival?

Answer: Always have a weapon at hand

She is a survival specialist and instructs them all how to behave. It is not long before the rules start to be broken. Sanaa Lathan played Alexa, whom I am hoping turns out to be Ellen Ripley's mother at some point in this ongoing storyline. Sanaa was also in "Blade", "The Best Man", "Love and Basketball", "Brown Sugar" and "Out of Time".
