Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

"Baraka" is Fricke's most famous and best film, in my opinion.

All of Fricke's works are considered documentaries.
4. Who produced the film?

6. How long did pre-production, production and post-production last, altogether?

Answer: 3 years

It is one of the longest times required to make a film. The average time it takes to do all of the above on a film is one to one and a half years.
7. What format was "Baraka" shot in?

Answer: TODD A0-70 mm

A special camera was created for the movie. This was because "Baraka" would not have nearly the impact it has if done on traditional 35 mm film. Also the camera was quieter than a normal camera, allowing Fricke to intrude less upon the various humans, as well as animals, in the movie. Using the TODD AO-70mm also posed one more diffuculty for Fricke.

The film is incredibly expensive and difficult to get. So Fricke had to get it right the first time. His tiny, 4 millon dollar budget shows that he accomplished it quite well.
8. Which war is seen in "Baraka"?

Answer: The First Middle Eastern War

The First Middle Eastern War is the European name for the Persian Gulf War. The scenes are of the Kuwati oil fields burning, as well as the absolute destruction of the Iraqi armored divisions on the Highway of Death, as named by the US media.
9. Which Nazi Concentration Camp is seen in the movie?

Answer: Auschwitz

The scene came directly after the steel mill scene with the three oven stokers. Those were the ovens of Auschwitz.
10. What Islamic religous festival is being filmed in the Mecca scene?

Answer: Ramadan

This is the only time that any religous festival has been filmed in Mecca.
