Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 1989 horror film featured a young boy named Gage, who came back from the dead as a murderous villain. Which movie was this?

Answer: Stephen King's Pet Sematary

This 1989 horror chiller was adapted from King's 1983 novel of the same name. Gage Creed got run over and killed by a truck on the road in front of his home while chasing down a kite he was flying. His father, Louis Creed, being devastated by his untimely death, decided to bury him in the pet cemetary up the hill. Everything and everyone that was buried there comes back evil, which gives meaning to the movies tagline, 'Sometimes dead is better.'
2. Actress Jordan Ladd starred in a movie about a woman whose newborn baby craved blood instead of milk. What was the name of this creepy 2009 horror film?

Answer: Grace

Jordan Ladd played the role of Madeline Matheson. While pregnant, she and her husband Michael were involved in a car accident, resulting in Michael's death. The doctors told Madeline that her unborn child was also dead, but she chose to carry it to full term, despite what the doctors had said.

She had a girl, who at first appeared to be stillborn, but then somehow she revived. Bad thing is, baby Grace was not a normal infant. She craved blood. Madeline, who started accepting this as normal, killed to supply her newborn baby with the blood she needed.

This disturbing movie was taken from a 2006 short film of the same name, which starred Brian Austin Green and Liza Weil. Jordan Ladd is the daughter of actress Cheryl Ladd, of 'Charlie's Angels' fame.
3. What did the the horror films, 'Joshua' (2007) and 'Orphan' (2009) both have in common?

Answer: Both films had the same actor or actress in a starring role.

Actress Vera Farmiga played the role of the mother in both films. In 'Joshua' (2007), she played the role of Abby Cairn. She and her husband Brad (played by Sam Rockwell) were the parents of Joshua and his baby sister. Joshua was a very disturbed nine-year-old who liked to torment his sister and cause trouble for the family.

He drove his mother to a nervous breakdown, and even killed a family member. In the 2009 horror chiller, 'Orphan', Farmiga and actor Peter Sarsgaard played the roles of John and Kate Coleman.

They adopted Esther (played flawlessly by actress Isabelle Fuhrman), and eventually wound up regretting it, to say the least. Esther did some very, very bad things! This movie had a kicker of an ending. Two other similarities of these two intense films is that both of the lead villians were said to be nine years old, and both were great piano players.
4. Which 2005 horror/drama re-make was about a single mother and her young daughter who moved to an apartment complex that was haunted by the spirit of a little girl?

Answer: Dark Water

This 2005 horror chiller starred Jennifer Connelly as Dahlia. She and her young daughter, Cecilia, moved into an apartment complex on Roosevelt Island, where strange things started happening not long after they arrived. The spirit of a young girl kept appearing, not to mention the huge stain on the ceiling that would drip water. 'Dark Water' is an American re-make of the 2002 Japanese horror hit that bears the same title.

A short story titled 'Floating Water' was what inspired the original film. John C. Reilly and Tim Roth also starred in the re-make.
5. Young actor Boo Boo Stewart starred as an evil child named Donald who gets adopted by a clueless young couple in which of these horror creepers?

Answer: 666: The Child

In this creepy and somewhat bloody 2006 film, a young couple named Scott and Erica Lawson decided to adopt young orphan Donald after he was seen roaming aimlessly by a plane crash. There were no survivors from this crash and it was believed that Donald's real parents were killed, while Donald attained only minor burns and scrapes.

After bringing him home, things seemed great at first... until the death count started piling up. The following year, a sequel titled '666: The Beast' showed Donald as an adult, and his wife expecting their own child.
6. The 2002 Walt Disney film 'Lilo & Stitch' starred Daveigh Chase as the voice of Lilo. Which other 2002 film of the horror genre also starred this young actress?

Answer: The Ring

Daveigh Chase played the creepy and unforgettable role of Samara. This film was an Americanized re-make of the 1998 Japanese hit 'Ringu'. After people watched a mysterious video tape with several creepy images, they would get a phone call with a creepy voice stating that they would die in seven days. I do not want to give too much away for those who have not seen this movie. I do have to say that I have seen A LOT of horror since a very young age, and I am hardly ever spooked.... but this film is CREEPY! While most people say that they prefer the original, this 2002 version absolutely chilled me to the bone!
7. Actors James Van Der Beek and Dee Wallace-Stone starred in a movie about all the town's children yearning to kill adults in which 2006 film?

Answer: Clive Barker's The Plague

In this film, all of the town's children at the ages of nine or under had suddenly gone into a catatonic state at the same time, leaving their parents to wonder what had caused this to happen. Every child that was born after that also fell prey to this same condition. Ten years later, they all wound up waking up at the same time, and with an uncontrollable urge to kill off all the adults in the town.

This film has been compared to the 1960 horror classic 'Village of the Damned'.
8. Name the 1974 horror classic that was about a woman who gave birth to a mutant baby who was born to kill. (Hint: This classic spawned two sequels.)

Answer: It's Alive

In the film, Frank Davis was so excited about his wife getting ready to give birth. Unfortunately, things didn't go so great in the delivery room, as the doctors and nurses wound up with a scary surprise... then they wound up dead! This film was written, produced and directed by Larry Cohen.

It spawned two sequels: 'It Lives Again' (1978) and 'It's Alive III: Island of the Alive' (1987). Actress Bijou Phillips starred in the 2008 remake of the same name.
9. Which 2006 movie from the Afterdark Horrorfest Collection was about a large group of children that came back from the dead after being trapped in a mine?

Answer: Wicked Little Things

In Addytown, Pennsylvania, a very cruel mine owner used poor immigrant children to work as slave labor in Carlton Mine. The mine wound up exploding, and all the children wound up being buried alive. This took place in 1913. In present day, the cannabilistic zombie children came back for their revenge. Lori Heuring and Scout Taylor-Compton starred in this gory horror flick.
10. What was the title of the 1989 horror/comedy from Troma Entertainment that was about the town's children disappearing, then coming back as cannibalistic zombies?

Answer: Beware! Children at Play

Any Troma movie fan pretty much would know what to expect. The towns kids were disappearing and the adults were being killed off. It is discovered that the children wound up becoming zombies, and it was up to the rest of the town to eliminate them. The last 10 minutes of this film were considered so controversial because of the amount of violence.

When the film's trailer was played at the Cannes Film Festival, almost half of the theatre emptied out, with people protesting its violent content.
