Miklo was the bi-racial lead character. Half Caucasian and half Chicano, Miklo had a racist white father who tried to beat the Chicano out of him, until one day he couldn't take any more. He beat up his father and returned home where he went from gang banger wannabe to a hard nosed prison gang leader, right before your very eyes.

Vatos Locos, inhabitants of East Los Angeles, were the chief rival gang of Tres Puntos. Members of Vatos Locos had a VL tattoo on their hand between their thumb and index finger. Vatos Locos translates into crazy guys.

Answer: San Quentin

Located in Marin County, California, San Quentin was the backdrop for much of the movie. It was in San Quentin that Miklo learned of his true calling as a gang leader. Side note: San Quentin holds California's only gas chamber.

Answer: La Onda

It was when Miklo joined La Onda that he learned of the concept, blood in blood out. It meant that the only way in the gang was to kill someone, and the only way out of the gang was death. La Onda, when introduced, were the third strongest gang in San Quentin. They feuded with the BGA while the AV stood back and enjoyed it. In the end, only La Onda stood tall.

Answer: Montana

Montana was the level headed leader of La Onda. He wanted nothing more than have his people prosper. He avoided war until it was the last choice, and he was respected by everybody. Montana met his untimely demise while preparing to see his daughter for the first time in years.

Answer: Paco

Paco was the leader of Vatos Locos. When he and his gang killed some rivals and were arrested, Paco chose the Marines over prison and later became a narcotics officer.

Answer: Bonafide

Bonafide played a big part in Montana's death and he did not even know it. Miklo had Bonafide's comb reproduced and sent it to the man who would kill Montana. Realizing the dynamics of what had happened, Bonafide called a meeting with Miklo and La Onda to discuss a truce. The truce lasted six months, and Bonafide was killed as La Onda took over.

Thornton played Lightning, a white supremest. Rhames played Ivan, a prison detective in charge of San Quentin gangs. Trejo played Geronimo, a member of La Onda who was supposed to keep an eye on Miklo and make sure he did what he was ordered to do in order to join La Onda.

Answer: Spider

Spider and his gang, Tres Puntos, attacked Cruz and injured his back. The next morning, under Paco's orders, Vatos Locos took revenge and Miklo ended up shooting Spider. This scene was the turning point in the three main characters' lives - Miklo, Cruz and Paco.
