Broken Lizard's "Club Dread" Trivia Quiz

In the opening shot of the film, we see an aerial view labeled Pleasure Island, Costa Rica. Although Jay Chandrasekhar directed "Club Dread", the opening sequences of the island, from the air, were shot and directed by someone else.

Rolo is killed right away in the mausoleum. The killer uses a machete to "do away" with him. The guy who plays Rolo is Dan Montgomery, who happens to be a good friend of Jay Chandrasekhar's.

Penelope tells Jenny this when they first meet on the trail to the pool. The actress who plays Penelope is Jordan Ladd. She is the daughter of Cheryl Ladd, who starred in the television series "Charlie's Angels" from 1977-1981.

This is a variation on the drinking game known in the U.S. simply as Quarters. Putman tells Jenny this in the bar scene in an obvious attempt to impress her. The rest of the guys in Broken Lizard decided that Jay was too uptight as a director, so they created the most ridiculous character they could for him. They figured it might loosen him up a bit during filming.

Machete Phil is the main character in the local legends of Pleasure Island. Supposedly he is a former employee who went crazy and killed a bunch of other employees with a Machete. This was a little joke on Broken Lizard's part. Doesn't Machete Coletti have a nicer ring to it than Machete Phil?

Answer: Pear

Ironic, isn't it? Phil is dressed as a pear and is also eating a pear. His pear costume is part of the maze game that guests are playing. The maze scene was Broken Lizard's homage to "The Shining", and "Pac-Man", of course.

When the group is trying to figure out where the mysterious lyrics on the activities board came from, they come up with "Naughty Cal". The island employees all think that the killer is following the lyrics to the song as the methods by which he kills people. Pete mentions several times that it's his 1978 album. "Son of a Son of a Sailor" was actually Jimmy Buffet's 1978 album.

They only show it once, when Putman is reading the news article about Dave's parents. Wabash is the name of a street in Chicago, which is Jay Chandrasekhar's home town.

Pete mentions this when listing Hank's accomplishments. McGainey, who plays Hank, has a movie and television career that has spanned over 20 years.

Lars mentions this to Jenny at the end of the movie. Throughout the movie, Lars is depicted as a relaxed, non-violent kind of guy. Seeing Kevin Heffernan as the suave masseure Lars was a real pleasure, but he'll always be Farva to me!
