Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays the character of Elvis?

Answer: Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell was born on June 22, 1958. Also known as "The Chin" due to his large jawbone, Bruce Campbell is best known for his role of Ash in the "Evil Dead" series.

The Elvis in this movie is an old man spending his latter days in a rest home in Texas. Since everyone believes Elvis is dead, no one actually believes him when he says he is Elvis. They only look at him as a senile, confused individual who thinks he is Elvis. The world has moved on without him, leaving him old, washed up, and not worth attention. Everything he does is either worthless or sadly amusing in the eyes of the young. Furthering this indignity, he also has a potentially cancerous growth in a tender area.

Although Elvis is the main character in this movie, none of Elvis' music is actually heard during the movie. This was due to the expensive licensing costs which would have driven the movie well over budget.
2. What is JFK's brain replaced with in the movie?

Answer: Sand

John F. Kennedy is surprisingly played by the actor Ossie Davis. After the purported assassination, he was dyed black, had his brain replaced with a bag of sand, and stashed out of the way in a Texas rest home. According to the movie, JFK's actual brain is kept in a jar at the White House. In addition, despite being classified, JFK does confirm his relations with Marilyn Monroe.

Ossie Davis acted in several dozen movies during an illustrious career. Unfortunately, he died of natural causes at the age of 87 on February 4, 2005.
3. What is the name of the individual Elvis switches places with?

Answer: Sebastian Haff

Tired of the fame and the stress that comes with it, Elvis switches identities with Sebastian Haff, an Elvis impersonator. However, Haff has a weak heart and liked taking drugs even more than Elvis did. They initially sign a contract that Elvis can re-assume his identity when he feels like it.

However, this contract is later lost and the real Elvis (Bruce Campbell's character) continues working as an Elvis impersonator until he breaks his hip on stage and sustains a head injury, placing him into a coma.
4. What creature is initially seen terrorizing Elvis?

Answer: Scarab beetle

A large scarab beetle is seen chasing after the rest home residents before the mummy, Bubba Ho-Tep appears. Elvis initially traps it in his bedpan, but it skitters away before Elvis eventually skewers it with a fork and then stabs it into an electric fan.

A species of dung beetle, the scarab beetle has long been held sacred by the Egyptians.
5. Who does JFK initially suspect the mummy is?

Answer: Lyndon Johnson

Not convinced the ugly Bubba Ho-Tep figure is a mummy, JFK believes it is Lyndon Johnson. When Elvis alerts JFK to the fact that Johnson is actually dead, JFK claims that death would never stop him. Eventually, due to observations around the rest home, JFK learns that Bubba Ho-Tep is actually a mummy and not Lyndon Johnson.
6. Where do JFK and Elvis find the Egyptian hieroglyphics?

Answer: On the Wall of the Bathroom stall

JFK discovers the hieroglyphics on the bathroom wall and drags Elvis into the bathroom to look at them.

JFK does a rough translation of them, claiming they read:

"Pharoah gobbles donkey goobers" and "Cleopatra does the nasty"

Elvis is less than impressed with the findings and a little irritated with being dragged out of bed to look at graffiti on a restroom wall.
7. How does Elvis lose the contract he has with the impersonator he switched lives with?

Answer: Barbecue accident

While cooking on the barbecue, Elvis accidentally knocks over the lighter fluid causing a chain reaction of explosions, incinerating the trailer where the contract is. With the contract gone, Elvis has no proof who he really is and has to continue living the life of Sebastian Haff, an Elvis impersonator. Needless to say, any chances at recouping the riches of his music career are also destroyed.
8. What is the name of the rest home JFK and Elvis are residing in?

Answer: Shady Rest

The sign is shown during the movie as it begins.

Quite a coincidence but both JFK and Elvis are residing at the Shady Rest nursing home in Texas!

The nursing home is adjacent to where a stolen truck carrying the mummy, Bubba Ho-Tep, plunges into a river, releasing him from his curse and allowing him to roam free.
9. Does Elvis use his karate skills in this movie?

Answer: Yes

In addition to his career in music and movies, Elvis also had a passion for martial arts. First exposed to it in 1958, he trained in shotokan karate, eventually earning his 8th degree black belt in 1974.

In the final fight with Bubba Ho-Tep, Elvis does indeed break out some of his karate skills to defeat him! The effort to kill the mummy takes a lot out of Elvis. But as he is slipping into unconsciousness, the stars send him a message stating that "All is Well".
10. What does Bubba Ho-Tep seek at the rest home?

Answer: Souls

Having been freed from his curse, Bubba Ho-Tep is free but still requires sustenance. Being near a rest home is a perfect place. Although the residents' souls have gotten weak due to age, they are easy prey to the mummy as they provide little resistance. In addition, since the ones who die are replaced by new people moving in, there is almost an infinite source of souls for Bubba Ho-Tep to feed on.

However, the mummy didn't quite count on Elvis and JFK joining forces in an effort to destroy him.
