Jamie agrees to help Landon when he finds it difficult to recall his lines, but tells him not to fall in love with her. In spite of this, Landon and Jamie fall in love with each other during the rehearsals, and later on, they also begin to date each other. On one of these dates, Landon asks Jamie what she plans to do in the future, but Jamie tells him that she has not made any plans, since she is suffering from leukemia and is a terminally ill patient, nor is the treatment helping her to improve.
