Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening of the movie, we are introduced to Victoria the White Cat being abandoned in the streets. What is the name of the actress that plays her, making her movie debut?

Answer: Francesca Hayward

Francesca Hayward is an English ballet dancer and part of the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden in London. She was born in Kenya but has lived in England her whole life. She heard about the opportunity to audition and decided to try for the role of Victoria as she felt she had nothing to lose and loves her job as a ballet dancer.

She stated this in a interview with Jimmy Kimmel while promoting "Cats".
2. In the musical number "The Old Gumbie Cat", we are told that Jennyanydots, a contestant for the Jellicle Ball, is a domestic cat who just sits around all day. However, "when the days hustle and bustle is done", what does she claim to do?

Answer: teach mice music, crocheting, and tatting

When the family is all in bed, Jennyanydots creeps down to the basement and teaches the mice music, crocheting, and tatting as she is "deeply concerned with the ways of the mice. Their behavior's not good and their manners not nice". Jennyanydots is played by Rebel Wilson.
3. According to Rum Tum Tugger, if you offered him a pheasant, what would he rather eat instead?

Answer: grouse

"If you offer me pheasant, I'd rather have grouse.
If you put me in a house, I would much prefer a flat".

Rum Tum Tugger is a rebel cat who never seems to be pleased with what he is given and seems to love attention from the ladies. Paul Nicholas was the original in the West End in 1981, and Terrance Mann on Broadway in 1982. He is played by Jason Derulo in the movie.
4. Bustopher Jones is the cat about town. What part of town is he from?

Answer: St. James's

"I don't haunt pubs,
I have eight or nine clubs,
For I'm the St.James's Street Cat"

Bustopher Jones is a contestant for the Jellicle Ball. According to Jennyanydots, the reason Bustopher wants to win is so he can come back to a new life to eat and become fat again, as he loves cuisine and fine dining. Bustopher Jones is played by James Corden.
5. Old Deuteronomy is the one who makes the Jellicle choice.

Answer: True

Old Deuteronomy is a beloved and wise old cat who serves as the patriarch in the musical. Brian Blessed was the original in the West End in 1981, and Ken Page was the original on Broadway in 1982. Judi Dench plays the character in the movie. Judi was suppose to be in the original stage musical, but she tore her Achilles tendon and had to pull out. Lloyd Webber and Tom Hooper decided to make Old Deuteronomy a female, and Judi was offered the part.
6. What is Gus the Theater Cat's real name?

Answer: Asparagus

"Gus is the cat at the theatre door,
My name, as I ought to have told you before,
Is really Asparagus, but that's such a fuss to pronounce,
That they usually call me just Gus."

Gus is a contestant for the Jellicle Ball. His song is about the highlights of his career in the theatre, and in his youth was the smartest of cats, but he is now no longer a terror to mice or to rats because of his age and suffers from palsy. Gus is played by Sir Ian McKellen in the movie. Stephen Tate was the original in the West End in 1981, and Stephen Hanan on Broadway in 1982.
7. Fill in the blank: "Macavity's a mystery cat, he's called the _______."

Answer: hiddenpaw

"Macavity's a mystery cat, he's called the hiddenpaw,
For he's the master criminal who can defy the law."

Macavity is played by Idris Elba and Bombalurina, who sings this song, is played by Taylor Swift. Bombalurina uses the song as a distraction while the other cats are incapacitated with catnip at the Jellcile Ball. This is when Macavity shows up, demanding to be made the Jellicle choice.
8. After messing around in the home of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, Victoria gets caught up in some necklaces as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer abandon her while the family dog is coming, having been alerted by all the noise they were making. Who comes to rescue Victoria?

Answer: Mr. Mistoffelees

Victoria is quickly rescued by Mr. Mistoffelees, who throws a bone out of his hat to distract the dog, and they both escape, heading back to the others just in time for the arrival of Old Deuteronomy and the start of the Jellicle Ball. Mr. Mistoffelees is played by Laurie Davidson.
9. Where are Macavity's kidnapped victims taken to?

Answer: A barge on the River Thames

The captured cats are transported onto a barge on the River Thames. Macavity's plan is to capture the other contestants so he will automatically be made the Jellicle choice and go to the Heaviside Layer. Growltiger is the one in charge of watching the prisoners to make sure none of them escape.
10. Grizabella is selected as the Jellicle choice. As she ascends to the Heaviside Layer in a chandelier, which is repaired by Mr. Mistoffelees to float like a hot air balloon, Macavity makes one last attempt to go to the Heaviside Layer by leaping onto a rope from the chandelier. However, he loses his grip and falls. Where does he land?

Answer: Nelson's Column

He falls and lands on top of Nelson's Column while the other cats watch Grizabella go to the Heaviside Layer. This is where the song "The Ad-Dressing of Cats" is performed by Judi Dench and the rest of the cast.
