"Cold Mountain" (1997) is the story a Confederate soldier who deserts after being wounded. Inman (Jude Law) encounters many hardships and obstacles on his way home to Cold Mountain, NC. It is also the story of Ada (Nicole Kidman), a city woman with whom Inman starts a relationship just before leaving for the war.
After the death of her father, Ada must learn to run his farm, but has no idea what needs to be done. Together with Ruby (Rene Zellweger), a drifter who teaches Ada how to do the tasks necessary to run the farm, they eventually get it back in working order.
Inman ultimately arrives home, but the Home Guardsmen are not far behind.
