Valmont steps in and agrees to see Cecile, but his motive is to invoke a revenge on Madame du Volanges, Cecile's mother!

This role of Madame de Rosemonde was portrayed by beautifully by Mildred Natwick, a veteran of many films and television, whose career in acting started in 1940. This was her last role before her death.
