Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Sandra Bullock's occupation in "All About Steve"?(2009)

Answer: Cruciverbalist

In case you are not familiar with the word, a cruciverbalist is someone who writes and designs crossword puzzles. Bullock plays one of these. Thinking she is in love with 'Steve', a television camera man (played by Bradley Cooper) she follows him on his assignments.

This film was panned by critics and moviegoers alike. It won two Razzie awards for Bullock as worst actress and Bullock and Bradley Cooper as worst screen couple. Additional nominations for Razzies were for direction, screenplay, and film. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 7%.

It 'lost' worst picture to some "Transformer" movie.
2. What was Ben Stiller's occupation in the "Meet the Parents" series? (2000)

Answer: Nurse

His girl friend's father, played by Robert De Niro, is a macho type with a CIA background and looks with distain on Stiller's chosen profession. Add to that Stiller's character's last name Greg Focker, his penchant to be accident prone, and the disappearance of the family cat. The situation was funny enough to spawn at least two sequels.
3. What was Billy Crystal's occupation in "Forget Paris"?(1995)

Answer: Basketball referee

In this very underrated romantic comedy, Crystal stars and also directs, with Debra Winger as his independent wife. As a professional referee, Crystal is on the road much of the time and when he is home, he finds himself a caretaker of Winger's confused father played by William Hickey in one of his last performances. The ups and downs of their relationship is told around a dinner party with Richard Mazur and Julie Kavner.
4. What was Robert De Niro's occupation in the cult classic "Brazil"?(1985)

Answer: Air Conditioning Technician

In this world of a futuristic/retro society, conformity is required. With the infrastructure failing, an air conditioning tech who repairs the failing duct system without permission is regarded as a terrorist. A dead fly spot can lead to arrest and punishment. Both Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) a low level government employee and Harry Tuttle (De Niro) must pay the price for their non-conformity.
5. Mel Brooks played two roles in "Blazing Saddles"(1974). One was Governor William J. Lepetomane. What was the other?

Answer: Indian chief

Given that Mel Brooks may never win an acting award, he is a great comedy writer and appears in many of his own projects. As the governor he says "Holy underwear! Sheriff murdered! Innocent women and children blown to bits! We have to protect our phoney baloney jobs here, gentlemen!"

As the Indian Chief, we are at a loss for a quote as the Chief spoke only Yiddish.
6. Peter Sellers in "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"(1985) played three roles. Which of these was NOT one of them?

Answer: Air Force bomber pilot

The Nazi scientist is, of course, Dr. Strangelove himself. The bomber pilot is Slim Pickens who rides the A-Bomb down to Moscow. Sellers plays RAF Group Captain Lionel Mandrake who has an altercation with a soda machine, President Merkin Muffley, confused about how things seem to have gotten out of hand, and Dr. Strangelove, an ex-Nazi who addresses the president as "Mein Führer".
7. What was Robin Wright's occupation in "The Princess Bride"?(1987)

Answer: Princess

It is a long way from the Princess becoming a bride in 1987 to Claire Underwood, ambitious wife of the President of the United States ("House of Cards" 2015) but Wright's career has grown with her maturity. "The Princess Bride" has a host of character actors that has made the film a lasting favorite. Rob Reiner directs with Norman Lear as a producer.

In supporting or cameo parts are Christopher Guest, Peter Falk, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, and who can forget Andre the Giant.
8. What was Linda Hunt's occupation in "The Year of Living Dangerously"?(1982)

Answer: Photographer

Not only did Linda Hunt make a statement of gender in that she played a man, her role as Billy Kwan won the 1983 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The plot evolves around Mel Gibson as a reporter during the uprising against President Sukarno in Indonesia with Sigourney Weaver as a British Embassy officer. Hunt plays a Chinese/Australian photographer who aids Gibson to make contacts for his reporting.

She has since been very active in both film and television.
9. What was Anthony Daniels' occupation in the "Star Wars"(1977)series?

Answer: Robot

Daniels not only initiated the role of C-3PO, he donned the golden robot spandex six times. Daniels is British and spends much of time in personal appearances promoting the "Star Wars" franchise. He is also a professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center.
10. What was Johnny Depp's occupation in "Sweeney Todd"?(2007)

Answer: Barber

Indeed, he was the demon barber of Fleet Street who slashed the necks of the unsuspecting so that his co-conspirator, Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter) could make the remains into popular meat pies. It's a musical.

Although Roger Ebert gave it four stars and Rotten Tomatoes gave it 86%, I personally found it distasteful. (pun intended)
