Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before the Messiah enters the tail of the comet, what is disengaged?

Answer: Orion

Fish takes over the controls of the Messiah and disengages Orion, the heavy lower part of the spaceship. Orion must be disengaged before heading into the comet's tail, because once inside the tail, rocks the size of houses are hurtling toward the Messiah.

Some bypass the ship others hit it. Fish lands safely on the surface of the comet, and the mission to destroy the comet and save Earth is in full swing.
2. According to the movie, what is another name for a comet's tail?

Answer: Coma

When the astronauts are nearing the comet's surface, Jenny, who is now a news anchor, is talking to a scientist. She asks him what it's like inside the tail of the comet, and he says that rocks, sand, and ice make up the comet's tail, or coma. Jenny then repeats it for her audience.

It's funny to note that according to "Deep Impact," another name for the comet's tail is coma. However, according to Webster's Dictionary, a coma is another name for the head of the comet.
3. Which astronaut is blinded when the sun breaches the horizon?

Answer: Oren Monash

The astronauts, Oren, Gus, Mark, Eric, and Mikhail, have five to seven hours to plant the moles into the comet's surface. It takes hours for the men to get to the right area on the comet and begin sinking the moles into the surface. When the men have only 24 minutes left, the mole that Oren is working with becomes jammed.

He goes in and discovers that the mole is jammed against the side of cavernous opening. Racing against time, Oren tries to dislodge the mole, but with a little over a minute left, he decides to jump on it.

The begins burrowing on its way, but by this time the horizon is breaching. The five astronauts immediately put their sun visors down, except Oren, who is still with the mole. Explosive outgases shoot up everywhere, and Oren is shot out of the hole.

His sun visor is still open and he screams in pain as the sun burns his eyes and blinds him. Because all the astronauts are tethered, Oren doesn't float off into space.
4. Which astronaut dies when his tether snaps, sending him off into space?

Answer: Gus Partenza

With all the astronauts rushing to the Messiah, which Fish and Andie have moved closer, Partenza's tether snaps and he hurtles out into space. When Oren, Mark, Mikhail, and Eric finally get back to the Messiah, Mikhail demands that they go save Gus, but Fish and Andie tell him that it's not possible.

Answer: Missouri

In the soft limestone cliffs in Missouri, immense underground caves are being constructed that will house one million individuals, under the age of 50. It's considered the new Noah's Ark.
