Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who says the following quote? "...and that, my liege, is how we know the Earth to be banana shaped."

Answer: Sir Bedevere

The scene: Sir Bedevere is explaining something to King Arthur and you only catch the last line of what he's saying (i.e. the Earth is banana shaped). King Arthur replies, "This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheeps' bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes."

Sir Bedevere is played by Terry Jones. He also plays Dennis's mother and Prince Herbert.
2. Who says the following quote? "Are you saying 'Ni' to that old woman?"

Answer: Roger the Shrubber

The scene: The Knights are trying to find a shrubbery to bring back to the Knights Who Say 'Ni'. While "tormenting" a poor old woman with "ni", Roger the Shrubber overhears them and ultimately offers up a shrubbery, since it is his trade.

All of the choices are characters played by Eric Idle. His main role is Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir Lancelot.
3. What word completes the quote? "Well, we'll not risk another frontal assault. That rabbit's __________!"

Answer: dynamite

The scene: Tim the Enchanter has lead King Arthur and the Knights to the Cave of Caerbannog where they see the "beast". A few Knights charge the rabbit, only to be completely pulverized. King Arthur responds to the outcome of losing three Knights in a matter of seconds with the above quote.

King Arthur is played by Graham Chapman. While King Arthur is his main role, he also plays the Voice of God and a few minor characters.
4. Who says the following quote? "Oh, I am enjoying this scene!"

Answer: Dingo

The scene: Dingo (not Zoot, Dingo's twin sister) is leading Sir Galahad through the Castle Anthrax when she stops to talk to the audience about how much she enjoys the scene. Many characters are shown saying "Get on with it!" while she does this, even a couple characters that have yet to be shown in the actual storyline.

Dingo and Zoot are played by Carol Cleveland. She was one of only a few women allowed to be featured players on "Monty Python's Flying Circus" because mostly, the Pythons would play the women characters themselves.
5. What word completes the quote? "Well, she turned me into a ________!"

Answer: newt

The scene: Three peasants approach Sir Bedevere with accusations that another peasant is a witch. He asks for proof, to which one peasant replies with the above quote. Sir Bedevere questions him because he doesn't look like a newt. The peasant hesitates and then says, "I got better."

This line is said by John Cleese as one of the peasants. His main role in the movie is Sir Lancelot, but has memorable roles as the Black Knight, the Taunting French Guard, and Tim the Enchanter.
6. Who says the following quote? "Come and see the violence inherent in the system!"

Answer: Dennis

The scene: King Arthur approaches an "old woman" (who we soon find out is a 37-year-old man named Dennis) and asks him and his mother where their Lord is. They end up in an argument about how legitimate King Arthur's role as king is and the quote above is said right before the well-known quote, "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!".

Dennis is played by Michael Palin. His main role is Sir Galahad, but is also the King of Swamp Castle, the first Swallow Savvy Guard, and a few others.
7. What word completes the quote? King of Swamp Castle: "One day, lad, all this will be yours." Prince Herbert: "What, the ___________?"

Answer: curtains

The scene: The Prince is about to be married to a Princess that he doesn't even like. The King is suspicious that his son might be gay because he randomly bursts into song, mentions the "curtains" when the King is actually talking about the Kingdom, and tells of his dreams of being rescued.

This scene was taken one step further in Eric Idle's musical adaptation "Spamalot". He outs Sir Lancelot and gives him a song and dance number proclaiming his homosexuality.
8. Who says the following quote? "He's got huge sharp...he can leap about...look at the bones!"

Answer: Tim the Enchanter

The scene: The Knights are staked out at the Cave of Caerbannog where they see the "beast" that nobody can seem to get by. They make comments about how it's just a wee little bunny rabbit and then Tim the Enchanter argues by saying the above quote. Unconvinced, a few Knights try to fight the rabbit and prove to be unsuccessful, just as the Enchanter warned.

The rabbit they used in this scene was not harmed by any means, but they did dye it red (for the blood) and could not get the red dye to wash out. The owner wasn't pleased.
9. Who says the following quote? "I told him we already got one!"

Answer: Taunting French Guard

The scene: King Arthur and the Knights are searching for the Holy Grail and stop at a castle to rest for the night. They try to convince the guard to let them in and, in exchange for food and shelter, they would let their master join them on their quest. The French Guard proceeds to taunt them with many things, including telling them that his master already has a Holy Grail and that it's "very nice".

Although this movie is credited as being co-directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, all the Pythons had a chance to sit behind the camera during filming. However, most of the Pythons admitted to liking Jones's directing style the best.
10. What word completes the quote? "Well, this is a ____________ zone."

Answer: temperate

The scene: King Arthur is searching for knights to join him in his quest for the Holy Grail and happens upon a castle with two very swallow-savvy guards. They barely discuss the King's intentions because all they can talk about is how the King doesn't have a horse and that Patsy is just banging coconuts together to make it sound like a horse is galloping. The guard points out that the coconuts couldn't have been found there because they are tropical.

Patsy is played by Terry Gilliam, the only Python who is an American. Although none of the Pythons really saw themselves as true actors (they were writers first and foremost), he was the one responsible for all the animations and that job was his top priority over taking big acting parts.
